2023-10-12

The "Maritime Doctrine · Juegun Forum" and the "Theory and Practice Forum of Human Buddhism" organized by Shanghai Jade Buddha Temple were held in Shanghai from the 9th to the 10th. Multiple Buddhist practitioners from Hong Kong and Macao have exchanged ideas and discussed the theory and practice of human Buddhism with the Buddhist community in mainland China. At the forum, both mainland and Hong Kong and Macao Buddhist practitioners believed that exploring the theory and practice of human Buddhism would help promote positive energy, reflect the profound significance of Buddhist enlightenment and soothing the soul. Dharma Master Yan Jue, President of the China Buddhist Association, reviewed history at the opening ceremony of the forum. He said that Shanghai is one of the important places for theoretical exploration and practice of human Buddhism. A hundred years ago, eminent monks represented by Master Taixu settled here in Xi, founded the Jue Qun Society, trained talents, and embarked on a practical journey of human Buddhism. During the keynote speech stage of the forum, multiple speakers conducted multidimensional discussions on human Buddhism and the Sinicization of Buddhism. Master Kuan Yun, President of the Hong Kong Buddhist Association, explained his personal insights through video format. He said that from the development history and dissemination of Buddhism, the most basic teachings and interpretations are "starting from human beings". In modern times, the concept of human Buddhism advocated by Master Taixu and layman Zhao Puchu is also based on "human beings" and emphasizes the practice in life. In his keynote speech, Master Jing Yin, the abbot of Hong Kong's Baolian Zen Temple, combined Chinese Zen thought to explain the modern practical exploration of the Sinicization of Buddhism. He mentioned that at the personal level, he practiced it personally and emphasized "returning to the world" in his thoughts and actions, which also confirms the essence of human Buddhism. The keynote speech by Master Jie Sheng, President of the Macau Buddhist Association, focused on examining the sinicization of Buddhism from both historical and practical perspectives. He took the development of Buddhism in Macau as an example and introduced that in recent years, the Buddhist community in Macau has closely followed the pace of national development, promoting the deepening of Buddhism, social service, and electronic achievements. At the forum, the Vice President of the China Buddhist Association and the Abbot of the Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai, Master Awakening, stated that the ideas of human Buddhism provide a starting point for the sinicization of Buddhism; The pioneering spirit of integrity and innovation has provided confidence in the sinicization of Buddhism. The Jade Buddha Temple will also take this forum as a new starting point, further inheriting and promoting the excellent tradition of patriotism and love for religion, and continuously enriching the content of human Buddhism. The forum invited nearly 100 representatives from the Buddhist community in Hong Kong, Macao, and mainland China, as well as experts and scholars from universities, research institutions, and Buddhist schools, to participate in the discussion. On the occasion of the forum, Shanghai Jade Buddha Temple also launched a special exhibition titled "History and Prospects of Human Buddhism". (New News Agency)
