2023-10-07

The National Food and Drug Administration recently issued a notice on the conversion of three drugs, including Xiaochaihu granules, into over-the-counter drugs. It is reported that this is the ninth batch of public list of prescription drugs transferred to OTC drugs this year. Since then, there have been more than 20 varieties of prescription drugs transferred to OTC drugs that have been demonstrated and approved by the State Food and Drug Administration in 2023, of which the varieties of traditional Chinese medicine transferred to OTC drugs account for the majority, including Chaihuang Oral Liquid, ass hide glue Capsule, Jinlian Heat Clearing Effervescent Tablets, Jieguqili Preparation, Xibi Preparation, Tongqiao Rhinitis Preparation, Yinhuang Hanhua Dropping Pill Heyanning mixture, etc. In fact, with the continuous improvement of China's drug management system, the phenomenon of prescription drugs being converted into over-the-counter drugs is also gradually increasing. For patients, it is more convenient to purchase medication from offline pharmacies and online e-commerce platforms without the need for a prescription. According to the classification management requirements of prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs (Class A/B) under the Drug Management Law, after drugs are changed from prescription drugs to over-the-counter drugs, patients can purchase drugs from offline pharmacies and online e-commerce platforms without the need for a doctor's prescription. The channels for purchasing drugs have increased, making it more convenient and beneficial for some patients who need to purchase drugs for a long time; For pharmaceutical companies, converting prescription drugs to over-the-counter drugs means expanding the market and promising further growth in product sales. Industry insiders believe that if a certain type of drug is confirmed to have low adverse reactions and related risks after long-term use, it is possible to convert from prescription drugs to over-the-counter drugs.
