The extreme extremely heavy rainstorm in Shenzhen broke the historical extreme value since 1952

2023-09-08

From the evening of September 7 to the morning of September 8, there was an extremely heavy rain in Shenzhen. From 17:00 on the 7th to 6:00 on the 8th, the average rainfall in Shenzhen was 202.8 millimeters. Among them, the average rainfall in each district of Shenzhen is as follows: 380.8 millimeters in Luohu, 263.8 millimeters in Futian, 251.7 millimeters in Longhua, 250.8 millimeters in Guangming, 240.8 millimeters in Yantian, 234.8 millimeters in Longgang, 169.5 millimeters in Bao'an, 133.9 millimeters in Nanshan, 82 millimeters in Pingshan, and 48.6 millimeters in Dapeng. The maximum cumulative rainfall in the city is 469.0 millimeters (Donghu Street, Luohu District). According to the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory, the rainfall intensity was extremely strong, with the maximum of 2 hours of 195.8 mm, 3 hours of 246.8 mm, 6 hours of 349.7 mm, and 12 hours of 465.5 mm, respectively, breaking the historical extreme value of Shenzhen since there was a meteorological record in 1952. The 24-hour rainfall was only second to the "June 13" extremely heavy rainstorm in 2008. At the same time, the duration of this rainfall was extremely long, with 4 hours of rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters in 1 hour and 8 hours of rainfall exceeding 100 millimeters in 3 hours. In addition, the scope of this heavy rainfall is extremely wide. Except for Nanshan, Dapeng, Pingshan and Shenshan, other seven districts all have extremely heavy rainstorm of more than 250 mm. According to the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory, the main reasons for this extreme extremely heavy rainstorm are: first, the typhoon "Haikui" low-pressure circulation stopped for a long time from the afternoon of September 7 to the early morning of September 8; The second is the superposition of low pressure, monsoon, and weak cold air; The third reason is that the train effect of heavy rainfall leads to a long duration of heavy rainfall. It is estimated that from the daytime of September 8 to 10, Shenzhen will continue to be affected by low pressure and monsoon, and there will still be rainstorm and local heavy rainstorm, and the rainfall will weaken significantly on September 11.
