The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held a satellite launch celebration ceremony on the 26th, announcing that the "HKUST Xiongbin 1" high-resolution optical satellite had successfully launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Gansu Province and successfully entered the scheduled orbit for operation. HKUST and Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. (Changguang Satellite) will jointly build a multimodal remote sensing satellite constellation to create a comprehensive environmental monitoring and disaster prediction system. After the "Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Xiongbin 1" satellite enters its scheduled orbit, it can form a constellation with the existing satellites of Changguang Satellite, providing the latest real-time images and remote sensing data of Hong Kong and even the world. It will contribute to disaster management, environmental monitoring, and carbon neutrality in Hong Kong, the country, and the world. The Deputy Director of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Shi Junhui, stated that multiple parameters of the satellite have reached international high levels, reflecting the scientific research strength of HKUST and the achievements of deep cooperation in the field of aerospace technology between Hong Kong and mainland China. The Chairman of the HKUST Council, Shen Xiangyang, said that a comprehensive remote sensing satellite program can provide data support for macro decision-making such as disaster response, environmental monitoring, and sustainable resource management. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology will continue to deepen cooperation with various sectors, providing Hong Kong's scientific and technological innovation personnel with broader development space, and promoting Hong Kong's integration into the overall national development situation. The President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Ye Yuru, stated that the aerospace industry is an important component of the national development strategy. HKUST will fully utilize its scientific research advantages and collaborate with government departments, research institutions, and enterprises to promote innovation and application of satellite remote sensing data in the field of sustainable development, contributing to the country's industry, academia, and research and development in the aerospace field. This satellite was launched in collaboration with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Changguang Satellite. The launch was supported by Ye Zhixiong and Ye Wu Binbin, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology named the satellite "Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Xiongbin 1".
