Gao Yongwen: Promoting interaction among frontline medical staff in the Greater Bay Area

2023-08-21

To promote the high-quality integration and development of medical services in the Greater Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, I believe that greater efforts are needed to promote the two-way linkage of medical personnel in Hong Kong and mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area, so as to achieve meaningful integration of medical services in the Bay Area as soon as possible. "Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Executive Council member Gao Yongwen stated in Guangzhou on the 19th that in addition to communication at the hospital level, such communication should also be expanded to community healthcare, Traditional Chinese and Western medical services, as well as in the field of rehabilitation therapy. On August 19th, Gao Yongwen, a member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, stated in Guangzhou that he would promote two-way linkage between frontline medical staff in Hong Kong and mainland China. The Guangdong Physicians Association provided a picture of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area High Quality Medical Integration and Development Forum, which was held in Guangzhou on the same day, with a focus on medical integration in the Greater Bay Area. Guangdong and Hong Kong have been closely connected for many years, conducting regular talent exchange, mutual visits, and training cooperation. In April of this year, the Guangdong Hong Kong Medical Talent Exchange Program was launched, and the first batch of 83 medical and nursing personnel from Guangdong who participated in the program arrived in Hong Kong. They will have six months to a year of professional exchange in Hong Kong. Gao Yongwen suggests increasing the number of qualified medical staff coming to Hong Kong for communication and extending the time. Conducting cross-border medical staff exchanges can not only promote the exchange of professional knowledge, but also share the work of local public hospitals in Hong Kong over a longer period of cooperation, effectively helping the development of the Hong Kong medical system, "he said. Gao Yongwen said that in terms of recognizing medical qualifications in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong SAR government should also continue to study the list of recognized medical qualifications in the special registration plan, including more high-level medical schools and courses in mainland China, to attract excellent medical talents to develop in Hong Kong. The medical systems in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao are different, and breaking down institutional barriers is an important part of promoting the construction of the "Healthy Bay Area". With the expansion and implementation of policies such as the "Hong Kong Macao Medical Equipment Connect", cross-border medical cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao is accelerating. According to data from the Guangdong Provincial Drug Administration, as of now, the number of designated medical institutions under the "Hong Kong Macao Pharmaceutical Equipment Connect" has increased to 19, with a total of 24 urgently needed imported drugs (80 batches in total) and 17 medical devices (21 batches in total) approved, benefiting a total of 2501 patients. At the current stage, Hong Kong and Macao Pharmaceutical Equipment Communication mainly emphasizes' clinical urgent needs'. I believe it is necessary to further expand the pilot scope of existing drug and device imports, enrich the types of imported drugs, such as high-quality imported painkillers, chronic disease treatment and management drugs, and expand the scope of beneficiaries. "Gao Yongwen said, at the same time, international research and innovation drug institutions or drug logistics institutions in Hong Kong can also be used, Taking advantage of their comparative understanding of the registration process and standard requirements of Hong Kong and international pharmaceutical equipment, it facilitates the registration and use of innovative drugs and devices in mainland China in Hong Kong, and strengthens two-way communication between mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong in the field of pharmaceutical equipment. Gao Yongwen stated that in addition to promoting two-way communication between medical talents and medical devices, Hong Kong and mainland China can also promote cooperation in clinical research innovation, medical technology, and pharmaceutical medical devices, further ensuring the country's independence, autonomy, and self-improvement in the medical field.
