Research has found that women who consume sugary beverages every day may have a higher risk of liver cancer

Beijing, August 14 (Xinhua) - According to a study recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, women who consume sugary beverages daily may have a higher risk of developing liver cancer and dying from chronic liver disease compared to those who consume less sugary beverages. The study surveyed nearly 100000 postmenopausal women aged 50 to 79. Participants reported their daily intake of sugary beverages (excluding juice). The median follow-up time exceeded 20 years. The results showed that compared to women who drank less than three sugary drinks per month, women who drank one or more sugary drinks per day had an 85% higher risk of liver cancer and a 68% higher risk of death from chronic liver disease. However, researchers point out that this is only an observational study that cannot clearly infer causal relationships, and the research process relies on self-reported intake, sugar content, and other data from the study subjects. Therefore, more research is needed to verify this risk association. The relevant conclusions will help decision-makers develop public health strategies to reduce the risk of liver disease.
