Creating a "Global Sand Control Sample" for Technological and Technological Iterative Innovation in Sand Control Technology

2023-08-16

The Kubuqi Desert is the seventh largest desert in China, and the Kubuqi desertification control model is also known as the "Global Desertification Control Sample" by the United Nations Environment Programme. In Kubuqi, there is a young sand control person who has been in the desert for 10 years, using technology to control sand and light up the desert oasis. The reporter came to the Yili Kubuqi Ecological Management Zone located in Hangjin Banner, Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, and met Tian Wang, who was conducting field specimen collection work. The newly collected samples must be sent to the laboratory for processing in the shortest possible time. Tian Wang was born in 1990 and is 33 years old. As soon as he graduated from university, he came to Kubuqi to work on desertification prevention and control. But on his first day at work, the desert gave him a "downward force". But Tian Wang, who has a stubborn personality, has a strong will to refuse defeat in his bones. He secretly made up his mind to stay and make a name for himself. He humbly learned from the older generation of sand control personnel and trained himself to adapt to life and work in the desert. Soon, Tian Wang not only adapted to the desert environment, but also continuously worked hard to develop new sand control technologies. On the sand dunes, Tian Wang showed us the current airflow tree planting method with the highest efficiency and survival rate. With the continuous iterative progress of sand prevention and control technology, Elion Resources Group has introduced the concept of photovoltaic sand control. Now, it has been upgraded to the latest third-generation technology. Under the photovoltaic panel, which is 8 meters above the ground, crops such as potatoes and tomatoes are planted. Among them, the production capacity of potatoes per acre reaches 4000 kilograms, and large machinery can operate inside. In the process of using photovoltaic technology to control desertification, Tian Wang and his team also pioneered the technology of coupling livestock, poultry, and grass to develop ecological aquaculture using the space under photovoltaic panels. Not only are sand prevention and control technologies constantly changing, but information methods are also constantly improving and updating. Real time remote monitoring equipment has been built in the six major sandy xerophyte protected areas in the Kubuqi Desert. For the past 10 years, Tian Wang has deeply fallen in love with this job. He said that preventing and controlling desertification is not only his own job, but also a belief engraved in his blood. Over the past 10 years, Tian Wang and his team planted nearly 40 million trees and over 2 million acres of saplings in the Kubuqi Desert. With the efforts of sand control personnel like Tian Wang, the 18600 square kilometer Kubuqi Desert has been treated for over 6000 square kilometers, and nearly one-third of the desert has become an oasis. The vegetation in the core area of the desert has increased from less than 3% in the past to 65%, and various wild animals have increased from less than 100 species in the past to over 1000 species now.
