Water transmission pipeline installation of the Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project has been completed

2023-08-14

The Water Resources Department of Guangdong Province announced on the 11th that the installation of the water transmission pipeline of the the Pearl River Delta Water Resources Allocation Project (hereinafter referred to as the "Pearl River Delta Project"), a major national water conservancy project and an important basic project for people's livelihood in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, was completed on the 10th, and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. According to the Guangdong Provincial Department of Water Resources, the entire tunnel lining of the Pearl River Delta Project is 150 kilometers, including 87 kilometers of steel pipe lining, 35 kilometers of prestressed concrete lining, and 28 kilometers of ordinary concrete lining. In order to safely and orderly complete the installation task of large-scale lined steel pipes, the participating units of the project have independently developed a large diameter steel pipe transportation trolley for large-scale water conveyance tunnels and the first large-scale FBE hot melt epoxy powder anti-corrosion medium frequency heating equipment for steel pipes in China, effectively solving a series of world-class problems such as transportation difficulties in narrow spaces and quality control difficulties in anti-corrosion of large steel pipes. It is understood that a total of tens of thousands of builders have been invested in the entire line of the project, using about 26 independently developed steel pipe transportation trucks, promoting the construction efficiency from the initial 144 meters per month to the highest 720 meters per month, and helping the Pearl River Delta project become the largest underground water transfer project with the world's largest lined steel pipe pressure water transmission shield tunnel. The reporter learned from the Guangdong Provincial Department of Water Resources that the Pearl River Delta Project starts from Liyuzhou, Shunde, Foshan, the main stream of the Xijiang River in the west, and ends at Gongming Reservoir in Shenzhen in the east. In the middle, it passes through the core urban cluster of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area through deep pipeline water transportation. The project has a total length of 113.2 kilometers, a total investment of 35.4 billion yuan, a designed flow rate of 80 cubic meters per second, and a designed annual water supply of 1.708 billion cubic meters. It is a major national water conservancy project included in the national "14th Five Year Plan" outline, "Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Development Plan Outline", and "National Water Network Construction Plan Outline". After completion and opening to water, it will become the largest underground water transfer project in the world to date. The project officially started construction in 2019. After undergoing comprehensive initiation, excavation, and completion, the Provincial Department of Water Resources is currently fully promoting the completion and water supply of the project by the end of the year, about six months ahead of the original planned construction period. The Guangdong Provincial Department of Water Resources stated that water will be diverted from the western part of the Pearl River Delta, which is rich in water resources, to the eastern region where water resources are scarce, to solve the problem of water shortage in daily life and production in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Dongguan, and other places. It will also provide emergency backup water sources for Hong Kong and other places, and build a multi water source guarantee system for cities in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, providing strong water conservancy support for the construction and development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
