Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is rapidly gaining popularity and development. Several universities in Hong Kong have recently announced that they will provide GenAI applications for free to faculty and students. Among them, as the first university in Hong Kong to allow students to use GhatGPT, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) told China News Service reporters on the 4th that the university should accept GenAI in the long run. The University of Hong Kong (HKU) recently held a press conference to announce that in the new academic year 2023/2024, GenAI will be fully integrated into the curriculum in various fields of teaching and learning, actively improving students' cognitive abilities and application skills towards GenAI. The Academic senate of HKU has approved a comprehensive policy on the use of GenAI in teaching and learning in June. In the past few months, HKU has also provided ChatGPT and other GenAI tools for teaching staff to use. In the new academic year in September, HKU will provide free GenAI applications such as Microsoft OpenAI and Dall-E for teachers and students for teaching and learning purposes. Workshops, online courses, and related textbook information will also be held to familiarize everyone with and effectively apply various GenAI tools. Ian Holliday, Vice President of HKU, said that HKU will actively make good use of GenAI, because teachers and students can effectively master and apply GenAI tools, which is very important for teaching and learning. The goal of HKU is not only to equip them with relevant abilities, but also to become pioneers who can explore and unleash the potential of GenAI applications to benefit humanity. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) announced that since August 1, it has provided all faculty and students with GenAI applications for free, including ChatGPT and Microsoft Bing Chat, with a maximum quota of 500000 words per person per month. Li Da stated that it will conduct an evaluation based on the usage situation in the first three months, review the relevant arrangements and future plans for use. Li Da emphasizes an open and forward-looking stance on the use of artificial intelligence tools as a positive and creative force in education. The school welcomes the introduction of GenAI as a new educational technology, while strictly requiring students to uphold academic integrity and use relevant technologies responsibly. In fact, as the first university in Hong Kong to allow students to use GhatGPT, HKUST announced the launch of the "HKUST ChatGPT" as early as June, which will be provided free of charge to students and faculty starting from June 1st, with fees subsidized by the university. Following this practice, City University of Hong Kong (CUHK) will launch the "CityU GPT Chatbot" for teachers and students in the new academic year. City University has already sent emails to all faculty and students regarding the use of ChatGPT, providing guidance. Faculty members can flexibly decide whether to allow or completely restrict students' use of ChatGPT in their studies based on the nature of their courses and assignments. In addition, Qin Sizhao, the incoming president of Lingnan University (Lingnan University), recently wrote on the school website that Lingnan University has decided to accept ChatGPT and announced that it has purchased ChatGPT licenses for the entire school
