New Marvel Review: The ocean is not Japan's "sewer", let alone a testing ground

2023-07-03

According to reports, the Japan Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission began a "final comprehensive inspection" of the nuclear contaminated water discharge pipelines and supporting facilities at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant on June 28th. Once inspected as qualified, Japan will discharge nuclear sewage into the ocean through these pipelines. The sea area around Fukushima Prefecture is not only an important fishing ground for fishermen in Fukushima and its surrounding areas, but also an important part of the Pacific Ocean and even the global ocean. The discharge of nuclear wastewater into the sea will seriously affect marine fisheries, the environment, ecology, and human development and security, causing incalculable damage to the environment, economy, society, and sustainable development. The ocean is a public property of the world, not Japan's "sewer", let alone a testing ground. This practice of harming the common interests of all humanity for the sake of its own personal interests cannot persuade the domestic and foreign people, and will only further undermine Japan's trust in the international community.
