At the 19th Annual Meeting of Psychiatrists of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association recently, the Series on the Disease burden and Utilization of Health Services for Mental Disorders in China (hereinafter referred to as the "Series") was officially released. As selected for the National Publishing Fund project and the "13th Five Year Plan" National Key Publication Publishing Plan project, the publication and distribution of this series of books are of milestone significance for the development of mental health epidemiology research. According to Professor Huang Yueqin, the chief editor of the series and the Sixth Hospital of Peking University, the series is divided into four volumes with detailed contents. It is a national survey project on mental disorders involving many disciplines, many types of mental disorders included in the survey, a large sample size of sampling survey, strict quality control implemented on the site, and many participating partners - an important study on the Disease burden of mental disorders and the utilization of health services in China (referred to as the "China Mental Health Survey"). It is reported that since 2003, experts and scholars in the field of psychiatry across the country have introduced internationally advanced research methods and persistently promoted national projects to conduct national investigations of mental disorders. After 10 years of accumulation, the "China Mental Health Survey" project was launched in 2012 with funding from the National Health Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology. The survey was led by Huang Yueqin as the project leader, and Peking University Sixth Hospital as the project undertaking unit. It collaborated with 9 cooperative units, 3 cooperative units, 31 mental health institutions, and public health colleges across the country, and multiple professionals from various regions worked together. From project initiation, design, implementation, data analysis, to results release and book publishing, it took another 10 years, It is a model work of large-scale epidemiological investigations of mental disorders completed by multidisciplinary experts and multiple units in collaboration. Huang Yueqin introduced that as the first national epidemiological survey of adult mental disorders, this project faces numerous difficulties and challenges throughout the entire process. It not only requires the combination of professional knowledge in psychiatry and social science population survey theory, but also makes the execution of the survey extremely difficult due to the large number of questionnaires. The survey covered 157 representative disease monitoring points in 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country, with 32552 people surveyed. Finally, we obtained the prevalence rate and characteristic distribution of 36 categories of mental disorders in seven major categories, including anxiety disorders. At the same time, we obtained social Demography related factors and the current situation of health service utilization. After the on-site investigation was completed, the project team submitted a research report after rigorous and meticulous data analysis. The high-quality basic data and series of studies generated by the survey have filled the gap in the national epidemiological survey of adult mental disorders. For the first time, the epidemiological prevalence and distribution characteristics, clinical symptom severity, and social function impairment of various types of mental disorders in Chinese adults were provided; Estimate disability adjusted life years; Analyze the current situation of patients with various mental disorders utilizing mental health services; To explore the Disease burden of mental disorders and the influencing factors of medical service utilization, and provide a scientific basis for formulating prevention and treatment strategies for mental disorders. The former National Health and Family Planning Commission released the main results on World Health Day on April 7, 2017. In February 2019, the project team's first scientific paper on the main research results was made a key research report by the internationally famous medical journal Lancet Psychiatry, and was distributed with the chief editor and expert comments
