Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, June 15th (Reporter Gu Tiancheng, Li Heng) China is one of the countries with the largest working population in the world. In the past decade, the number of newly reported cases of occupational diseases in China has decreased by 58%, and the number of reported cases of occupational pneumoconiosis has decreased by 67%... This is what the reporter learned from the press conference of the National Health Commission on the 15th. Wang Jiandong, Deputy Director of the Occupational Health Department and First Level Inspector of the National Health Commission, stated that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China has continuously improved the laws, regulations, standard system, and regulatory mechanism for occupational disease prevention and control, comprehensively carried out occupational health protection actions, and achieved significant results. However, at the same time, China is still in the stage of rapid urbanization and industrialization, and there are still common phenomena such as excessive occupational disease hazards in the workplace. The prevention and control situation is still severe. It is reported that China has established and improved a monitoring system for occupational diseases and hazards, with a monitoring coverage rate of over 95% in counties and districts. Since 2019, a total of 247000 employers have been monitored nationwide, covering 42.63 million workers, including 18.89 million workers exposed to occupational disease hazards. At the same time, active monitoring of small and micro enterprises was carried out in 500 counties and districts across the country with severe dust hazards or a concentration of pneumoconiosis patients. Over 520000 workers were provided with free occupational health examinations, and the pneumoconiosis like change rate among workers was found to be about 1%. Wang Jiandong stated that in the next step, the National Health Commission, together with other member units of the inter ministerial joint meeting on occupational disease prevention and control, will promptly summarize and analyze the progress and existing problems in various regions, study countermeasures and measures, and work together with relevant departments and units, as well as local people's governments at all levels, to do a good job in the high-quality development of occupational health during the 14th Five Year Plan period.
