Stroke begins to 'target' more and more young people

2023-06-27

Epidemiological investigations have found that stroke is becoming younger year by year, and the proportion of middle-aged patients is also increasing. Standardized prevention and treatment are particularly important. Recently, Professor Wang Cuilan, Deputy Director of Neurology and Head of Cerebrovascular Disease District, Qilu Hospital, Shandong University, was specially invited by the First Medical Answer to bring professional answers to stroke. Stroke tends to be younger for men. Stroke is often referred to as "stroke". It is an acute Cerebrovascular disease. In severe cases, Disorders of consciousness and limb paralysis can occur. It is a major disease that causes human death and disability, and also a major cause of death for patients with hypertension. Wang Cuilan introduced that stroke is divided into ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke, among which the cause of vascular blockage is called "ischemic stroke", also known as "cerebral infarction"; Blood vessel rupture causes a "hemorrhagic stroke", also known as "cerebral hemorrhage". Among them, cerebral infarction (ischemic stroke) occurs more frequently, accounting for about 3/4, and cerebral hemorrhage accounts for about 1/4. Whether it is "cerebral infarction" or "cerebral hemorrhage", both are acute and have serious consequences. If rescue is not timely, most patients will leave varying degrees of sequelae, such as difficulty in movement, sensory impairment, language impairment, visual impairment, or hearing impairment. Every year, there are 2 million to 2.5 million new stroke patients in China, and in recent years, the incidence has shown a younger trend. "Wang Cuilan said that most studies refer to stroke in adults aged 18 to 45, including ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke, as young stroke, which is more common in males and is more common and on the rise. According to statistics, stroke in young people accounts for approximately 15% to 18% of all strokes. More than 50% of young stroke patients have traditional risk factors for Cerebrovascular disease, such as hypertension (the most common), diabetes and hyperlipidemia, and lack of standardized treatment for these risk factors; Early onset Atherosclerosis accounts for 20-30% of the causes of cerebral infarction in young people, and the average age is over 35 years old. Unhealthy lifestyles (such as smoking, drinking, etc.) play a crucial role in the onset of the disease; There is a family history of early-onset cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and other causes such as arterial dissection, moyamoya disease, patent foramen ovale, etc. Migraine, smoking, and oral contraceptives are the three main risk factors for ischemic stroke in young women. It is reported that cervical artery dissection is an important cause of stroke in young people. About 20% of young people's strokes are caused by arterial dissection, and neck massage, trauma, and engaging in certain sports activities such as swimming, weightlifting, badminton, golf, tennis, and yoga can all lead to the occurrence of this disease. After the formation of a dissection, it can cause local pain or tingling like pain in the patient, which can be unilateral or bilateral. Secondary cerebrovascular disease can lead to serious neurological deficits, which are specific to the location of the affected blood vessels. Failure to treat in a timely manner can lead to serious consequences. "Wang Cuilan said that the dissection itself can cause arterial occlusion, leading to large-scale cerebral infarction; Once the thrombus in the dissection falls off, it can lead to cerebral embolism; If the interlayer ruptures, it may cause massive bleeding and endanger the patient's life. It is recommended to seek timely medical treatment when relevant symptoms occur to reduce the occurrence and recurrence of ischemic events! Be vigilant for early detection of stroke signals
