At the beginning of this year, 86-year-old Hong Kong scientist Chen Qingquan won the "Moving China 2022 Person of the Year" award, The awarding speech was "Made in China, with ruts all over the world today. You are the pioneer, and you are the Navigator." He said: "Although you have won many awards before, this award is of extraordinary significance, surprising and glorious to me, and also reminds me that the research of electric vehicles should be done every minute." (Photographed by Chen Yongnuo, a reporter from China News Agency) Chen Qingquan, an 86 year old Hong Kong scientist, won the "People Who Moved China in 2022" award earlier this year, The awarding speech was "Made in China, with ruts all over the world today. You are the pioneer and you are the Navigator." He said in a recent interview with a reporter from the China News Agency: "Although he has won many awards before, this award is of extraordinary significance, which surprises me and makes me feel extremely honored. At the same time, it reminds me that every minute is needed to study electric vehicles." "A country should be strong, and technology should be strong first." With this belief, Chen Qingquan, who had just graduated from high school, left Indonesia where he was born and grew up and returned to China to study. This idea stems from his childhood experiences. On the day of an interview with reporters from China News Agency in Hong Kong, Chen Qingquan told reporters: "I have experienced the Dutch colonial era and Japanese occupation period in Indonesia, and I have personally experienced that when the regime changed, no one protected our overseas Chinese. Our fate is closely related to the country, and if the country is not strong, no one would protect the overseas Chinese." Chen Qingquan was born into an overseas Chinese family in Indonesia. At the age of 16, he was admitted to the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Beijing Institute of Mining and Technology (now China University of Mining and Technology). After graduation, he stayed in the university to teach. Later, he received a master's degree from Tsinghua University, a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Hong Kong, and later stayed in the University of Hong Kong to teach. Despite his advanced age, he still insists on working every day and holds titles such as Professor at the University of Hong Kong and President of the World Electric Vehicle Association. On the road to scientific research in the half century, Chen Qingquan has won multiple awards and holds multiple patents internationally. His proposed electric vehicle motor technology, power integration technology, electronic control technology, and the concept of "four networks and four streams" have been widely studied and industrialized. He is also known as the "father of Asian electric vehicles". In his office at the University of Hong Kong, he still hangs the first electric vehicle design diagram he designed in 1993, with the license plate number "U2001", where "U" represents unity and "2001" represents welcoming the 21st century. The first thing to do in technology is to have curiosity. When I was a child, my family's work was also related to cars. I saw that every time I tested cars, the engine would smoke, and I thought about how to make cars not smoke. The second thing is to have perseverance and persist in conducting experiments, "Chen Qingquan said. In 1997, Chen Qingquan was elected the first member of the CAE Member in Hong Kong. Now, the country has clearly supported Hong Kong's development as an international innovation and technology center, and the SAR government has also announced the Innovation and Technology Development Blue
