China emphasizes that external intervention and unilateral sanctions cannot solve the Central African problem

2023-06-06

On the 5th, Dai Bing, the Deputy Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, emphasized in his speech at the open meeting of the Security Council on the Central African issue that external intervention and unilateral sanctions cannot solve the problem. Dai Bing stated that the recent situation in multiple countries in Africa has shown that solving African problems requires finding solutions from within. The international community should respect the sovereignty and leadership of the countries involved and provide positive energy for maintaining regional political stability. The frequent application of external interference and unilateral sanctions not only fails to solve problems, but also exacerbates conflicts. China believes that the international community should objectively evaluate human rights work based on the actual situation and people's needs of the countries involved, and should not use human rights as an empty slogan, let alone as a tool to interfere in the internal affairs of the countries involved. Dai Bing said that illegal armed groups, terrorism, and piracy in the Gulf of Guinea are rampant in the region. The situation in eastern Congo and the spillover effects of unrest in Sudan are worrying, exacerbating the humanitarian and refugee crisis in the region. China supports the Economic Community of Central African States to uphold the concept of common security and strengthen collective security cooperation. The international community should support the capacity building of counter-terrorism forces in regional countries, increase investment in maritime security issues in the Gulf of Guinea, and encourage regional countries to enhance mutual trust and resolve differences. Dai Bing stated that in recent times, major economies have adopted irresponsible financial and monetary policies, shifting economic and financial risks to the outside world, and periodically harvesting the wealth of developing countries, which is the biggest external risk factor for developing countries such as Africa. Developed countries and international financial institutions should effectively understand the difficulties faced by regional countries, fulfill development aid commitments, maintain humanitarian funding, help regional countries overcome difficulties, and support regional countries in enhancing their development resilience. Dai Bing said that China is a good friend and partner of Central African countries and firmly supports the cause of regional peace and development. China is willing to work with the international community to increase attention and investment in the region and provide more constructive support. (New News Agency)
