2D nanosheets can be made within one minute

Japanese scientists have developed a new technology that can produce two-dimensional thin film materials only a few nanometers thick in about a minute. With the help of this latest technology, non professionals can quickly manufacture high-quality large nano films, which is expected to lead to the production of various types of nano devices. Relevant research was published in the latest issue of the Journal of Applied Materials and Interfaces of the American Chemical Society. Thin nanosheets have electrical, transparency, and heat resistance functions that are different from traditional bulk materials, and can be widely used in fields such as electronics, catalysis, energy storage, and biomedicine. Scientists are also testing the use of materials made of graphene and inorganic nanosheets to manufacture a range of devices from solar cells to sensors. But the latest research leader and professor at the Institute of Future Materials and Systems at Nagoya University, Mingna Nagata, pointed out that the current technology used to manufacture nanofilms requires complex manufacturing conditions and professional operations. Moreover, using existing methods, it takes about an hour to produce single-layer nanosheets, which has become the main obstacle in the production of nanosheets. In the latest research, Nagata Mina and his colleagues have developed an automatic film forming process, which uses an automatic pipette to drop a drop of colloidal water solution onto a heating plate to produce a nano sheet in about one minute, and then they pump and remove the liquid, resulting in a neat and flat single-layer film with no gap between the nano sheets. Nagata Mina explained that the decrease in surface tension of colloidal aqueous solutions suppresses the overlap and gap between nanosheets, allowing them to control their arrangement. By repeating the neat and flat single-layer film manufacturing operation, multi-layer films composed of single-layer nanosheets can be constructed layer by layer. The newly developed method is simple and fast, requiring only a small amount of solution to produce high-quality, large-area, and neatly arranged thin films. It is expected to produce nanosheets with various components and structures, such as oxides, graphene, and boron nitride. (New News Agency)
