2023-05-16

At Nansha Port of Guangzhou Port, which is located at the mouth of the the Pearl River Sea, there are 10000 tons of huge ships coming and going to all parts of the world. There are many huge shore bridges in red and blue. Tens of thousands of trailers carrying containers are shuttling around. The steel flood on the railway line of Nansha Port is dancing, and countless logistics chains are spreading from here. At present, the construction of the fourth phase of Nansha Port is in full swing, and preparations are also being made for the fifth phase of Nansha Port, an international terminal, and a sea rail intermodal terminal. In the future, the port throughput capacity of the entire Nansha Port Area is expected to reach over 30 million TEUs, ranking among the top single port areas in the world. The Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area has a large economic volume and obvious characteristics of an export-oriented economy. Maintaining the resilience and security of its industrial and supply chains is crucial for overall development. As the largest grain unloading terminal and silo cluster in South China, and also the largest single port logistics center and cold chain center cluster in China, how can Nansha Port leverage its advantages as a large port and smooth the logistics and supply chain in the bay area? The reporter recently walked into Nansha Port to seek answers. International shipping strengthened logistics On May 2, after opening a new route to Türkiye, Nansha Port welcomed its first liner. At 15:00 on the same day, the Chinese ship "Zhonggu Huanghai", which was fully loaded with containers, slowly docked. This new route connecting Türkiye's Ambali Port and Nansha Port in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area will further meet the demand for cargo exchanges between China and Turkey, and improve the opening level of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. After the route is opened, it will be operated by three cargo ships with a maximum load of 25000 tons, operating every two weeks, which will effectively assist Guangdong in exporting advantageous goods to the Middle East region, "said Jiao Wensen, the manager of the Terminal Business Department of Nansha Port Phase III. In June last year, the "Guangzhou Nansha Comprehensive Cooperation Plan for Deepening Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Cooperation towards the World" (hereinafter referred to as the "Nansha Plan") was released, clearly proposing tasks such as enhancing the functions of international shipping and logistics hubs. For example, supporting the joint construction of the Greater Bay Area Shipping Joint Trading Center by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in Nansha, and creating an international maritime service industry cluster. Mo Bin, Assistant Director of the Production Business Department of Guangzhou Port Group, stated that in recent years, Nansha Port has advanced in both expanding its inland hinterland and connecting to the international market, continuously striving to build an international shipping and logistics hub. Currently, Nansha Port has developed a series of innovative models such as sea rail intermodal transportation and the Bay Area One Port Connection, further enhancing its "inward and outward" function. As the only natural deep-water port in Guangzhou, Nansha Port has opened up the international shipping route for goods in the Pearl River Delta region and opened up an important channel for China's foreign trade. As of now, 20 container deep-water berths have been built in the Nansha Port Area of Guangzhou Port, with an annual throughput capacity of over 24 million TEUs. Foreign trade routes reach over 300 ports in over 100 countries and regions. This year, three 200000 ton liner ships, "COSCO Shipping Planet", "Mediterranean Samar", and "Dafei Freedom", have successively docked at the second phase terminal of Nansha Port Area in Guangzhou Port, amplifying the leading effect of the harbor. The large bridge cranes for loading and unloading goods immediately ran at full capacity. Accompanied by the loud whistle, international giant ships continue to sail from Nansha to the world... The busy Nansha Port is connected to the market at one end and enterprises at the other. The Nansha Plan proposes to promote cross-border and cross regional shipping service resources in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area
