Joint Press Release on the Fourth Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue between China and Pakistan

At the invitation of Foreign Minister Birawal Bhutto Zardari of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Qin Gang paid his first visit to Pakistan from May 5 to 6, 2023. On May 6, 2023, the two foreign ministers jointly chaired the fourth China Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Strategic Dialogue in Islamabad. Both sides comprehensively exchanged views on China Pakistan relations and cooperation in various fields such as politics, strategy, economy, security, education, culture, etc., and exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern. The Pakistani side congratulates the successful conclusion of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and wishes the new leadership of China to lead the Chinese people to achieve greater achievements in building a prosperous and prosperous socialist modern country. Pakistan is firmly committed to working with China to continuously deepen bilateral relations. Both sides recall the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries during the visit of Pakistani Prime Minister Shabaz to China in November 2022, agreeing to further deepen strategic cooperation between China and Pakistan at a time of profound changes in the international and regional situation. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the increasingly frequent high-level exchanges between the two countries and reiterated the importance of exchanges and interactions between important departments of the two countries. Both sides emphasized that China Pakistan friendship is a historical necessity and a unanimous choice between the two countries. As an all-weather strategic cooperative partner, China and Pakistan have a high degree of trust in each other, and the "iron rod" friendship enjoys the widest support domestically in both countries. Both sides agree to continue to firmly support each other on issues related to each other's core interests. China reiterates its priority for neighboring diplomacy, firmly supports Pakistan in maintaining sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and firmly supports Pakistan in achieving national unity, social stability, and economic prosperity. The Pakistani side reiterates its firm adherence to the One China policy and firmly supports China on all core interests related to China, including Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, Hong Kong, and the South China Sea. The two sides welcomed the 10th anniversary of the launch of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor and affirmed that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor is a demonstration project of the "the Belt and Road", which has promoted Pakistan's economic and social development, employment expansion and people's livelihood improvement. Both sides reiterated their commitment to promoting high-quality development of the corridor and noted with satisfaction that the corridor project is steadily advancing. Both sides reiterated that the upgrade and renovation project of the Pakistan No.1 railway trunk line is an important project under the corridor framework, and agreed to promote the early implementation of this project. Both sides agree to actively promote the Karachi Ring Railway project and strengthen cooperation in key areas such as agriculture, science and technology, information technology, and renewable energy. Both sides reviewed the progress of projects such as the China Pakistan Friendship Hospital and Gwadar New International Airport. Both sides reiterated their determination to build Gwadar Port into a high-quality port, regional trade center, and connectivity hub. Both sides believe that industrialization is crucial for the long-term sustainable development of the Pakistani economy and agree to actively promote industrial cooperation in accordance with the spirit of the China Pakistan Industrial Cooperation Framework Agreement. Both sides reiterated that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor is an open, inclusive, and win-win platform for cooperation, and welcome third parties to participate in the construction of the corridor and benefit from it. The Pakistani side is grateful for the economic and financial support provided by the Chinese side, as well as for the generous assistance provided by the Chinese side for the post flood reconstruction and recovery in Pakistan. Both sides reiterated their determination to combat all forms of terrorism. China acknowledges the efforts and sacrifices made by the Pakistani side to combat terrorism and extremism, and appreciates the measures taken by the Pakistani side to protect the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects in Pakistan, as well as their arrest and sentencing
