From 2020 to 2022, the financial investment in basic research and applied basic research in Shenzhen reached 15 billion yuan. As of 2022, Shenzhen has built a total of 3223 various innovation carriers, including 153 at the national level and 1278 at the provincial level. Among them, Guangming Science City focuses on the three major scientific fields of information, life, and new materials, with a centralized layout of 9 major scientific installations, 11 cutting-edge cross research platforms, 2 laboratories, and 2 research-oriented universities, totaling 24 major scientific and technological innovation carriers. Zhang Dongdong, Deputy Director of the Development and Reform Bureau of Guangming District, Shenzhen, stated that as of now, the Guangming Science City has invested over 50 billion yuan in construction funds. Among them, the two major scientific facilities of synthetic biology research, brain analysis, and brain simulation have been fully completed, and equipment is being promoted and will soon be put into use.
