Harmony from multiple sources, amplifying the reading volume of the entire population

2023-04-24

April 23rd is the 28th "World Reading Day". To encourage people to love and enjoy reading, various colorful reading activities are held around the world every year at this time. Before this year's Reading Day, many activity previews had already been swiped online. In fact, since early April, various renowned lectures, book sharing, and book fairs have been launched, with a strong momentum to expand "Book Day" into "Book Month". Deepening the promotion of universal reading and building a "scholarly China" is an important measure for a cultural powerhouse. From 2014 to 2023, "reading for all" was included in the Report on the Work of the Government for ten consecutive times. After years of hard work, China's reading service system has become increasingly perfect. According to data, in recent years, 80% of county-level and above cities in the country have held nationwide reading activities, and the "Booky China" brand has gone nationwide to encourage more people to participate in reading, gradually improving the reading level of the whole society. From the public library in the city center to the farmhouse bookstore between Qianmo, from the "reading club" of CPPCC members to the "children's book corner" of physical bookstores, reading is not only an important way to acquire knowledge and ideas, but also a way of communication and lifestyle. In recent years, there has been a popular saying: "Buying a book is like falling mountains, reading is like spinning threads." This sentence uses humor and humor to measure the distance between reading intention and reality. Over the years, China's national reading rate and volume have continued to grow, but the adult population's reading volume of paper books has never reached 5 per capita. On April 23rd every year, we see various reading reports and bestseller lists. After the excitement, reading, as a daily matter, should trigger more in-depth thinking. What causes the gap between reading willingness and reality? The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that Chinese path to modernization is a modernization in which material civilization and spiritual civilization are coordinated. At present, we already have a large number of "reading infrastructure": public libraries, rural bookstores, physical bookstores, and convenient book delivery logistics... Let "nationwide reading" go deeper and wider. In the future, we may also need to pay attention to disposable time and other aspects. With the accelerated pace of modern life, everyone is trying to find a balance between busy work, study, and entertainment. Having enough leisure time allows one to calm down, calmly explore, swim in the sea of books, and experience the joy of reading; If there is not enough disposable time and one is busy all day, reading will inevitably be placed in a secondary position, or even abandoned. In the long run, one will lose the ability and mood to "read a whole book". In this sense, promoting reading and increasing national reading volume is an issue that needs to be embedded in the overall social development framework for discussion, rather than just a matter of the "reading circle". Moving towards a reading society "is one of the original intentions of UNESCO's creation of" World Reading Day ". In fact, whether it is a "reading society" or a "learning society", it requires the government, schools, enterprises, libraries, publishing institutions, families, and other parties to form a joint effort and sing harmony, in order to continuously amplify the volume of reading.
