The Ministry of Science and Technology Initiates the Deployment of National Supercomputing Internet

Recently, the High tech Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology organized a national supercomputing internet work kickoff meeting in Tianjin. According to the plan, by the end of 2025, the National Supercomputing Internet will be able to form an overall layout with advanced technology, innovative models, high-quality services, and sound ecology, effectively supporting the achievement of goals such as original scientific innovation, major engineering breakthroughs, high-quality economic development, and improvement of people's quality of life, becoming a "highway" supporting the construction of a digital China. In recent years, with the active promotion of the Ministry of Science and Technology and various provincial and municipal governments, China's supercomputing construction has achieved certain results, effectively supporting technological innovation, social livelihood, and digital economy development. With the rapid development of the new generation of information technology represented by big data and artificial intelligence, the whole society has put forward higher requirements for computing power. It is urgent to break through the existing single supercomputing center operation mode to address issues such as uneven distribution of computing power facilities, inconsistent interfaces, insufficient independent research and development and promotion of application software, and better coordinate the computing power of national supercomputing centers. Supercomputing Internet is the use of internet thinking to operate supercomputing, connecting numerous supercomputing centers across the country, and connecting various capabilities and resources in the industrial ecosystem, such as computing power supply, application development, operation services, and users, to build an integrated supercomputing power network and service platform. The important goal of its construction is to closely connect the supply and demand sides, achieve coordinated scheduling of computing resources through market-oriented operation and service systems, reduce the threshold for supercomputing applications, and drive the development of computing technology to a higher level, promote the deep application of independent core software and hardware technology, and radiate the development and maturity of the autonomous and controllable industrial ecosystem. At the kickoff meeting, multiple experts in the field of supercomputing in China, representatives of relevant universities and research institutions, leaders of national supercomputing centers, representatives of network operators, and representatives of upstream and downstream related enterprises and users attended the meeting to share their experience in supercomputing operation services, explore the path of national supercomputing internet construction, accelerate the construction of a supercomputing independent ecosystem, and implement the action plan for supercomputing internet. The conference also initiated the establishment of the National Supercomputing Internet Consortium. The head of the High tech Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology stated that the Ministry of Science and Technology will build a national computing power base through the construction of supercomputing internet, promote the integrated operation of supercomputing power, and assist in technological innovation and high-quality economic and social development.
