On the 20th, the reporter learned from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) that the team of teachers and students at the university spent three years creating and telling the stories of ancient plant images and texts - a popular science book called "Searching for the Kingdom of Ancient Plants: A Geological Journey spanning 250 million years", which was recently published by China University of Geosciences Press. This book is based on the research results related to Permian Triassic geology and paleobotany from the School of Earth Sciences, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), and visually reproduces ancient plants from the perspective of geoscience popularization. The characteristics of plant fossils, collection of plant fossils, field survey, ancient plant community, the world of mass extinction and other contents are presented in the form of paintings and words. The hand-painted illustrations in the book were provided by the interviewee to discuss the original intention of the creation. One of the authors of the book and associate professor of the School of Art and Media at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Hada, introduced that in the process of conducting visual restoration research on ancient plants, the diverse plants from ancient times aroused the curiosity of the team. Under the guidance of geological experts and professors, the team devoted themselves to the book creation. The book is represented by Academician Yin Hongfu and Professor Yu Jianxin from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), and the Permian Triassic paleobotany research team serves as a scientific advisor. Yin Hongfu wrote in the preface that plant fossils are beneficial for us to understand the evolution, extinction, and changes in the living environment of life on Earth. The book presents hand-painted images of plants in southern China before the mass extinction event around 250 million years ago, which also inspires us to respect nature and cherish life. The hand drawn illustrations in the book are provided by the interviewee. Professor Tong Jinnan from the school stated that the restoration of ancient plants in the book will play a promoting role in popularizing knowledge of paleobotany and geology. Professor Song Haijun of the school believes that this book has guiding value for young people to understand the evolution history of life on Earth from the perspective of ancient plants, and to enter the scientific world from the perspective of geology.
