2023-04-14

On April 11th, at the New Era High Quality Development Summit Forum of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Second High Quality Development Conference of Traditional Chinese Medicine held in Wuzhen, Zhejiang, the methodology system of "Health Centered Medical Research" was released. Based on current problems and needs, addressing the challenges of chronic diseases, and facing the transformation of future medical scenarios, it is necessary to accelerate the shift of medical research direction from "disease centered" to "health centered", and construct new research paradigms and methodological systems. The conference was hosted by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and undertaken by the Department of Medicine and Health of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the State Key Laboratory of Component Chinese Medicine and the Haihe Laboratory of Modern Chinese Medicine. More than 200 experts and scholars from the field of traditional Chinese and Western medicine across the country, as well as nearly 3000 representatives, participated in relevant academic activities. Professor Zhang Junhua, Dean of the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Executive Deputy Director of the Haihe Laboratory of Modern Traditional Chinese Medicine, reported on the theoretical logic and technical framework proposed by the "Health Centered Medical Research Paradigm". Compared with the previous disease centered model, the technical framework of the "health centered medical research" methodology system consists of 12 sections, including research objects, research types, data types, data sources, data analysis, evaluation indicators, research results, evidence application, implementation subjects, implementation scenarios, technical means, and data security. Professor Zhang Junhua has driven changes in people's lifestyles and medical practice models through the new generation of information technology, resulting in the characteristics and practical needs of the era and paradigm shift in medical research. "We live in an era of change. With the rapid development and application of modern science and technology represented by information technology, the connections between people, people and things, and things and things have been changed, which has affected all aspects of life. The forms of links between patients, doctors, and hospitals are also undergoing profound changes. The rapid development of online medical practice will become the New Normal. Information technology and artificial intelligence have promoted the transformation of medical model, which is more important Putting people first and placing greater emphasis on seeking truth from facts is also in line with the practical characteristics and values of traditional Chinese medicine, which also prompts us to further emancipate our minds Zhang Junhua said that facing the challenges of changing scenarios in future medical practice, it is necessary to shift from a "disease centered" model to a "health centered" model. The research model centered on health is in line with the idea of traditional Chinese medicine that "treating diseases through work", and is also consistent with the idea proposed by the World Health Organization that "in the 21st century, medicine should not continue to focus on diseases as the main research field, but should focus on human health as the main research direction of medicine". Zhang Junhua said that the research paradigm of "health centered" is conducive to the implementation of the health work policy of "prevention first and equal emphasis on traditional Chinese and western medicine". The application and promotion of this technology system is a continuous process of development and improvement, requiring interdisciplinary collaboration and demonstration in the industry, including clinical medicine, preventive medicine, epidemiology, evidence-based medicine, information science, and regulatory science.
