The First Hong Kong High School Citizen Science Student Mainland Expedition Departs

2023-04-04

The first Hong Kong High School Citizenship and Social Development (CSD) student delegation to mainland China departed on the 3rd. About 250 teachers and students from different schools in Hong Kong gathered at the West Kowloon Station of the Guangzhou Shenzhen Hong Kong High Speed Rail to travel to Guangzhou and Shenzhen. It is reported that the inspection team will visit local high-tech companies and scenic spots for two days, and exchange ideas with mainland high school students. Many Hong Kong students expressed excitement about visiting the mainland for research and hope to take this opportunity to learn about the development of their motherland. On the morning of the 3rd, the Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chen Guoji, said during his farewell visit to West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong that he was pleased to witness the official launch of the first Civic Affairs Mainland inspection mission after the resumption of comprehensive customs clearance between Hong Kong and the mainland. He encouraged his classmates to understand the national conditions and the latest developments of the country during the inspection, strengthen national identity, and think about how to seize the enormous opportunities brought by national development, becoming contributors and builders of Hong Kong and the country. The Director of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Cai Ruolin, stated earlier that the Education Bureau will arrange for every high school student pursuing citizenship studies to participate in a Mainland China study tour, with the cost borne by the bureau. The accompanying teachers will also receive full funding. She expects more than 40000 students to participate in the mainland inspection team by the end of August. Starting from the 2021/2022 academic year, Hong Kong has implemented courses in Citizenship and Social Development in the fourth grade of secondary school (equivalent to the first year of high school in mainland China), with a focus on cultivating students' national identity. Mainland inspection is an important component of the civic education curriculum, aimed at enabling high school students to understand the national conditions and the latest developments of the country through on-site inspection activities, and enhance their understanding of Chinese culture.
