Accelerate the establishment of a national music museum

2023-03-28

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Party Central Committee has attached great importance to the protection of cultural heritage, and China's cultural heritage protection, inheritance, and application have entered a new realm. Cultural heritage includes many aspects, and musical cultural heritage is an important component that cannot be ignored. China's musical civilization has a long history, and the accumulated musical cultural heritage is particularly rich. However, up to now, among the numerous museums in China, there is not yet a national music museum to centrally preserve these cultural relics, which is incompatible with the important value of musical cultural heritage and the strategic needs of the development of national cultural undertakings. Based on this, it is urgent and necessary to accelerate the establishment of a national music museum. The establishment of a Chinese music museum is a basic prerequisite for the materialization and preservation of music cultural heritage. China has rich reserves for establishing a Chinese music museum, and there are countless musical instruments, music scores, murals, statues, acoustics, costumes, and artifacts left over from various ethnic groups and regions. The Institute of Music of the Chinese Academy of Art, which specializes in musicology alone, has a collection of over 2000 traditional musical instruments, such as the chimes of the Shang and Zhou Dynasties, the bronze drums of the Han Dynasty, and the ancient qin of various dynasties; There are nearly 10000 hours of traditional audio and video materials, such as the erhu melody "Two Springs Reflect the Moon" played by Ah Bing, and the ancient qin melody "Running Water" played by Guan Pinghu; More than 150000 volumes of music books and scores from various eras. However, due to limited conditions, these rare and precious musical relics lack suitable places to store, and even cause some cultural relics to be damaged, which is deplorable. Accelerating the establishment of a Chinese music museum is conducive to the timely rescue and scientific preservation of national art treasures, and better preserves the historical memory of China's traditional music culture. The establishment of a Chinese music museum is an important guarantee for the exploration of the cultural value of music cultural heritage. Music cultural heritage is the fusion of material and non material elements. Music cultural relics contain the aesthetic purport and profound connotation of music culture from ancient to modern times. Through music cultural relics, one can experience Chinese history, Chinese culture, and Chinese spirit. The excavation of the Jiahu bone flute in Wuyang, Henan Province, proves that as early as the early Neolithic era, the Yellow River and Yangtze River basins have nurtured the Chinese musical civilization, which is also the earliest known source of human musical civilization. The excavation and sound measurement research of the Bianzhong of Zeng Hou Yi in Suixian County, Hubei Province, has opened a new chapter in understanding the ancient musical system and pre Qin music. It can be seen that the study of historical data on musical relics plays an inestimable role in filling the gaps in literature records, restoring the historical appearance of musical culture, and exploring the cultural value contained therein. Currently, there is still a rich cultural heritage of music to be explored, sorted out, and studied in China. Accelerating the establishment of a Chinese music museum and establishing a broad platform for research on music cultural heritage will greatly promote the protection and inheritance of traditional Chinese music culture. The establishment of a Chinese music museum is an effective way to bring into play the educational value of music cultural heritage. In the definition of museums published by the International Association of Museums in 2022, museums are positioned as "places that provide multiple experiences for education, appreciation, deep reflection, and knowledge sharing." This shows that educational functions occupy an important position in museum functions. For a long time, due to the rare opportunity for the cultural heritage of traditional music in China to be published, its educational function has been playing a negligible role
