2023-03-07

Recently, Tan Dun, composer and conductor, signed a contract with Dika Records, a classical music brand of Universal Music Group, and released the Yuan Universe Symphony "Five aggregates". Tan Dun's other album "Tears of Nature" will also be released on September 23 this year. As a world-renowned creative artist, Tan Dun's creative repertoire transcends classical music and multimedia performance, breaks the boundaries between the East and the West, and leaves an indelible mark on the world music stage. Tan Dun said in an interview with reporters on March 6, "My music imagination has a very close relationship with nature. As musicians, we use sound to decode nature. I hope to share China's excellent music tradition with the world and put Chinese music on its wings." Five singles compose the Metacosmic Symphony, which is a new way of thinking about music. Tan Dun's Metacosmic Symphony, The Five Aggregates of Heaven and Earth, contains five singles, H2O Tempo/Water Color, Horch/Listening We (West East)/West Thinking and East Thinking, Meta Voyage/Yuanyuxing, Dream Rhythm/Dream, these five singles correspond to five movements respectively. The small ensemble of five movements includes water percussion, harp, brass, string and didgeridoo. Tan Dun called it a metacosmic symphony. "The Metacosmic Symphony is a new way of thinking for me, full of ideas and philosophies." Tan Dun further explained the concept of Metacosmic Symphony, "In the past, our creations were directly related to different themes, themes and historical backgrounds. For example, in Beethoven's era, when he wrote the Pastoral Symphony, he didn't really mean to present everything in the countryside, because there were no videos or photos at that time, and their thinking about the earth, the universe and nature came from imagination and abstract expression." In Tan Dun's view, the concept of the metauniverse has been reflected in Chinese ancestors more than 2000 years ago, "The cosmology presented by our ancient philosophy is completely space-time, and the metauniverse that we share now basically does not exceed these philosophies. The tradition and the future actually flow in a river. I want to show the part of the Chinese cosmology revealed in the traditional culture that is closely linked with the current world trend." In Tan Dun's view, the creation of the metauniverse symphony is not just an abstract philosophical world view, There are also many material materials to rely on, such as water and metal. These elements in the universe can become a part of music. Decode the sounds of nature and constantly explore the connection between nature and music. In fact, nature has a great influence on Tan Dun's music creation. He always seeks inspiration and sounds in nature. It is not only in this Metacosmic Symphony "Five aggregates Heaven and Earth" that underwater sound and metal are used as musical instruments, but also imitate the sound of air and the universe. In another album "Tears of Nature", which will be released on September 23 this year, Tan Dun will also use a 25-minute percussion concerto to describe his feelings after witnessing three natural disasters.
