The Preparatory Office of the International Mediation Court was established in Hong Kong SAR in accordance with the Joint Statement on the Establishment of the International Mediation Court signed by China and the relevant countries last year to carry out the preparatory work for the establishment of the International Mediation Court. The establishment of the Preparatory Office is a major international initiative to promote the settlement of international disputes through mediation in a harmonious and friendly manner. The International Mediation Court is expected to be a permanent multilateral intergovernmental international organization established by the parties through consultation, and to provide friendly, flexible, economic and efficient mediation services for the settlement of international disputes. Li Jiachao, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said in a video speech that the establishment of the Preparatory Office of the International Mediation Court in Hong Kong fully reflects the trust and support of the state in Hong Kong, the unique advantages of Hong Kong under the "one country, two systems", and the contribution that Hong Kong's professional services can make to global legal and dispute resolution services. Li Jiachao said that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region would actively participate in the promotion of the establishment of the International Mediation Court, and would fully support the Preparatory Office to carry out and organize the negotiation of international conventions and the preparatory work for the establishment of the International Mediation Court. At the inauguration ceremony held at the Hong Kong Law Hub on the same day, Liu Guangyuan, the Special Envoy of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, together with Lin Dingguo, the Director of the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, and Sun Jin, the Director of the Preparatory Office of the International Mediation Court, jointly unveiled the opening of the Preparatory Office. Liu Guangyuan said that the Preparatory Office would shoulder the important task of organizing and carrying out the negotiation of relevant international conventions, and lay the institutional foundation for the final establishment of the International Mediation Court. He said that he was full of expectation and confidence in the establishment of the International Mediation Court. This letter stems from the requirements of the times for the peaceful settlement of international disputes, from the spirit of cooperation in joint construction and sharing, and from Hong Kong's unique position and advantages. Lin Dingguo, Secretary of the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong SAR Government, said that Hong Kong was undoubtedly the best place for the establishment of the Preparatory Office and was very suitable for shouldering the major responsibility of promoting the establishment of the International Mediation Court. Under the "one country, two systems", Hong Kong, as the only common law jurisdiction in China, has a mature legal system, a solid foundation of the rule of law, diverse legal and dispute resolution services, and legal talents with an international perspective.
