On February 2, at the main venue of World Wetland Day in China, the National Forestry and Grass Administration announced that 18 wetlands were included in the list of important international wetlands, and Guangzhou Haizhu National Wetland Park in Guangdong Province was successfully selected. It is reported that the reason why Haizhu Wetland is listed in the list of international important wetlands is that its geographical rarity and representativeness, it is the only national wetland park located on the axis of a megacity in China, and it is a very scarce central green space. Guangzhou has given up more than one trillion yuan of commercial development value, with the goal of building a harmonious relationship between human and nature, and has created a valuable wealth in the center of the city of "entering nature, leaving prosperity". At the same time, Haizhu Wetland also has a unique Lingnan fruit forest ecosystem, and has retained the traditional agricultural culture of high ridge and deep ditch for thousands of years, which represents the unique cultural heritage of Lingnan. It is the rich biological resources and good ecological environment that make Haizhu Wetland provide necessary ecosystem services for the sustainable development of the city, and increasingly become a model for the harmonious development of human and nature. Through ten years of continuous exploration and practice, Haizhu Wetland has summarized a set of wetland restoration models and technologies in the central city. Taking the key technologies of bird habitat construction as the main line, guided by wetland ecology, landscape ecology, animal ecology, restoration ecology and other ecological theories, from the perspective of maintaining ecological balance, restoring bird diversity and ecological functions, and improving the quality of the ecosystem, build diversified habitats suitable for wetland bird life and reproduction, and carry out independent innovation of key technologies of bird habitat construction, The technology integration and promotion of wetland park design have broken through the technical bottleneck of the construction of wetland bird habitat in the central city, and the wetland bird population has been growing and the biodiversity has been significantly improved. As of January 2023, the wetland rate reached 79.4%, the number of bird species in Haizhu Wetland increased from 72 to 187, 2.6 times the original number, the number of insect species increased from 66 to 738, and the number of fish species increased from 36 to 64. Among them, there are 1 species of national key protected birds, 27 species of national key protected birds, including wild goose, pheasant, mandarin duck, white-breasted jade, brown-winged crow cuckoo and thrush, and 20 species of Chinese flower turtle, flat-breasted turtle and Chinese turtle in the IUCN red list. Since China acceded to the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat in 1992, it has designated 82 international important wetlands, including 81 in the mainland and 1 in Hong Kong. Up to now, the number of international important wetlands selected by Guangdong Province has expanded to 6, including: Haifeng Wetland in Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, Zhanjiang Mangrove Nature Reserve, Huidong Port Marine Turtle Nature Reserve, Nanpeng Islands Marine Ecological National Nature Reserve in Guangdong Province, Haizhu National Wetland Park in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, and Futian Mangrove Wetland in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
