China has built the world's largest and most complete optical communication industry system, and some key technologies such as optical communication equipment, optical module devices, optical fiber and optical cable have reached the international advanced level. A number of global leading enterprises have emerged, with Chinese enterprises such as Huawei, ZTE and FiberHome accounting for almost half of the global optical equipment market share. Looking forward to 2023, what are the development trends of the optical communication industry? Recently, FiberHome Communication released the top ten forecasts of optical communication, which may provide some development ideas for the industry. Trend 1: Trunk 400G ushers in the first year of commercial use, and is expected to grow in scale in 2023. 400G will become a major optical network platform in the next decade. Like 100G, it will dominate another new era of optical communication. In 2023, the long-distance 400G technology will go from behind the scenes to the front of the stage, and gradually become commercial. The mainstream PM QPSK (128Gbaud) and 16QAM (107Gbaud) schemes will have their own advantages, and will present a duel pattern, and will be integrated and unified in the future. Trend 2: The all-optical network is further developed, and OXC (optical cross connection) is evolving to a higher dimension. The all-optical network is the focus of building a network power, and OXC is the core of the all-optical network development. In order to cope with the continuous expansion of node scale, network backbone nodes will be upgraded from traditional ROADM to OXC, the WSS dimension will evolve to more than 32 dimensions and higher dimensions, and the miniaturized OXC devices of metropolitan area networks will be further popularized. Trend 3: The new optical fiber continues to be optimized, and the advantages of long-distance transmission highlight the broad road to the future. The new optical fiber will greatly release the potential of 400G transmission system. The ultra-low loss G.654. E optical fiber has significantly improved the performance of 400G bit/s and above ultra-high-speed long-distance transmission, and the commercial scale will be further expanded in 2023. New technologies such as hollow optical fiber and multimode optical fiber are emerging constantly to continuously improve the transmission performance of optical communication. Trend 4: C+L extended transmission is about to become commercial. Multi-band, SDM and other technologies have become the next research hotspot. It has become the industry consensus to use C+L band expansion to improve the single fiber capacity of 400G transmission system. In 2023, the expansion of C+L band will move from pilot to commercial, driving the upgrading of optical device technology in the upstream of the industrial chain. In the future, the improvement of the single-fiber capacity of the 800Gbit/s and 1Tbit/s higher rate WDM system will promote the research of new technologies such as S+C+L multi-band and space division multiplexing. Trend 5: Driven by the low latency and deterministic demand of the all-optical network, OSU and SPN small-granular schemes go hand in hand to build the low-latency and deterministic all-optical network with OSU and SPN slices, which will become the network differential bearing and high commercial value. The two technologies take delay as an important optimization goal, provide terabyte fine dynamic bandwidth lossless adjustment, realize flexible access and hard isolation protection for multiple services, and go hand in hand in the carrier's dedicated line service and industry promotion and application. Trend 6: The network node is developing towards intensification, and the integration degree is evolving from device to system in an all-round way.
