China's first high-energy synchrotron radiation light source intensifier is fully connected

2023-01-17

The reporter learned from the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that the fourth generation light source high-energy synchrotron radiation light source intensifier located in Huairou Science City, Beijing, was fully connected on January 13 and entered the equipment commissioning stage. The enhancer is an important part of the high-energy synchrotron radiation light source (HEPS) accelerator, with a circumference of about 454 meters. It is mainly responsible for accelerating the electron beam from 500 MeV to 6 GeV, and receiving the beam from the storage ring at 6 GeV and completing the charge accumulation. Under the conditions of the extraction, the beam is timely extracted and injected into the storage ring. The installation task of the intensifier equipment includes pre-collimation, tunnel installation, precise collimation, vacuum connection and packaging, etc. This full-line connection marks another big step forward in the construction of high-energy synchrotron radiation light source. High-energy synchrotron radiation light source is one of the 10 major scientific and technological infrastructures identified in the "13th Five-Year Plan" for the construction of national major scientific and technological infrastructure, and is an important support platform for original and breakthrough innovative research in basic science and engineering science and other fields. The device was launched in Beijing Huairou Science City in June 2019. It is a major national science and technology infrastructure that provides a technical support platform for national strategic needs and cutting-edge basic scientific research. It is also the most important major science and technology infrastructure of Beijing Huairou Comprehensive National Science Center. Synchrotron radiation refers to the electromagnetic radiation emitted by charged particles with a speed close to the speed of light along the tangent direction when moving in a curve, also known as synchrotron light. This scene is like rotating the umbrella quickly in the rain, and a cluster of water droplets will fly out along the tangent direction of the umbrella edge. Researcher Dong Yuhui, deputy director of the Institute of High Energy of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and executive deputy director of the High Energy Light Source Project, told the reporter: "Synchrotron light has the characteristics of strong penetration, high brightness, high intensity and wide energy spectrum, which can help people observe the microscopic world invisible to the naked eye." The High Energy Synchrotron Radiation Light Source is constructed by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the main construction contents include accelerators, beam line stations and auxiliary facilities, The construction period is 6.5 years, and the new building area is 125000 square meters. Its overall architectural shape is like a magnifying glass, implying that it is a sharp tool for detecting the microscopic world. The completed high-energy synchrotron radiation light source will be the first high-energy synchrotron radiation light source in China and one of the fourth generation synchrotron radiation light sources with the highest brightness in the world. Compared with the third-generation synchrotron radiation light source, the brightness of the fourth-generation synchrotron radiation light source is 100-1000 times higher. "To see the details in the material, it is very important to have enough brightness. For example, the brighter the flashlight, the clearer it can be seen. The brighter the light means the higher the detection accuracy and the faster the detection speed." Dong Yuhui said, "As the fourth generation of synchrotron radiation light source, high-energy light source can let us understand the internal structure of materials more clearly, which plays an important role in the development of material science and life science." According to Pan Weimin, the commander in chief of the high-energy synchrotron radiation light source project, the light source construction task will be completed in 2025. After completion, it will be used in China's advanced materials, aerospace, energy, environmental protection, medicine, petroleum, chemical industry It is widely used in fields such as bioengineering and micro-processing to provide breakthroughs in key technologies and solve
