Microwave driven multi degree of freedom robot comes out

2022-10-26

Recently, a robot directly driven by microwave, developed by the Soft Robot Laboratory of the Robot Research Institute of Harbin Institute of Technology (Weihai), was successfully launched, providing a new way for robot driving and control. Relevant research results were published in Advanced Science recently. It is reported that the robot can not only use microwave to drive directly, but also realize the end track control of the multi degree of freedom robot, thus giving the robot a new driving control mode, enabling it to work in some special scenes that other driving modes are not competent for, such as deformation control inside the closed non transparent structure, joint work of microwave ablation therapy and robot, etc. Microwave refers to the electromagnetic wave with a frequency between 300 MHz and 300 GHz, which is widely used in communication, energy supply, heating and other fields. However, no scholar has studied the technology of directly driving robots with microwave. Zhao Jianwen, a professor of Harbin University of Technology (Weihai), started the research on the direct driving of robots by microwave in 2019. After three years, the team finally explored the basic principles of microwave driving and controller deformation, and developed a robot directly driven by microwave. This research achievement is expected to open up the research ideas of scholars and attract other scholars to enter this new research field - when the existing driving methods are not competent, microwave driving is used to solve engineering problems. It is reported that the team has been committed to the research on soft robots, soft sensors and intelligent material drives for a long time, focusing on the theory and engineering application of soft robots in the internal maintenance of complex equipment; The research results have been used in the internal maintenance of nuclear power equipment and other occasions.
