Hong Kong Universities: Policy Address Provides More Development Opportunities for Creative Talents

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, Li Jiachao, released his first policy address on the 19th, in which he mentioned that from next year, he would fund universities to carry out more research and development in the middle and lower reaches, and promote the transformation of scientific research achievements and industrial development. He pointed out that the policy address further implemented the measures to develop the northern metropolitan area, which will provide huge development space for local universities and even innovative enterprises, and strongly promote the construction of international science and technology innovation centers in Hong Kong and Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. The University said that it was pleased that the SAR government planned to formulate the "Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint" this year, and set up the "Industry University Research 1+Plan" to support university research and development teams to commercialize research results. The newly established "Venture Capital Fund" of PolyU will also combine the resources of co investors and partners to assist the commercialization of PolyU's patented technologies and support the start-up enterprises of PolyU teachers and students. University of Science said that the university will be committed to promoting industry university research cooperation in Dawan District and other mainland cities, with its own advantages in basic research, combined with the local perfect industrial chain and broad market. Ye Yuru, the fifth president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), who just took office on the 19th, believed that the contents of the policy address showed that the SAR government had taken an overall consideration in planning how to promote the development of innovation in Hong Kong.
