2022-10-18

Eliminating hunger, achieving food security, improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture are important goals of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Over the years, with the joint support and promotion of the Chinese and African governments, the agricultural experts of the Chinese African scientific research institutes, the agricultural technical experts at the production line, and the enterprises and households have irrigated the tree of China Africa agricultural scientific and technological cooperation with enthusiasm and sweat, making important contributions to ensuring global food security, promoting poverty reduction and sustainable agricultural development. At present, China is carrying out continuous and in-depth cooperation with agricultural research institutions in more than 20 African countries. The China Africa Tropical Agriculture Science and Technology Innovation Alliance, the China Africa Modern Tropical Agriculture Joint Research Center, the China Africa Green Agriculture Development Research Center, and the "10+10" cooperation mechanism of China Africa agricultural research institutions have provided a platform for researchers from both sides to carry out joint research on key agricultural technologies, and various types of scientific research achievements are emerging. The Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences carried out scientific and technological research on tropical agriculture in Congo (Brazzaville), and the output of "South China No. 5" cassava planted in demonstration reached 51 tons per hectare, 5.6 times that of local varieties. The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences cooperated with Cairo University in Egypt to develop an inactivated vaccine against H5 highly pathogenic avian influenza in Egypt. The Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences cooperated with the South African Agricultural Research Commission to carry out research on tilapia genetics and breeding. It is better to teach people how to fish than to teach them how to fish. The Chinese government has shared agricultural production technology and management experience with African friends by assisting in the construction of agricultural technology demonstration centers and sending senior agricultural experts, which has improved the level of local agricultural development. Since 2012, the International Exchange Service Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China has sent 367 agricultural experts from 38 groups to 11 African countries, teaching nearly 1000 applicable technologies to recipient countries. Relying on the agricultural technology demonstration center, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University has successfully promoted the technology of fungus planting and edible fungi in Rwanda. The cotton varieties "China No. 1" and "China No. 2" developed by the China aided Sudan Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center have significantly increased the local cotton yield, and the planting area has accounted for more than 90% of the total cotton planting area in Sudan for many consecutive years. The hybrid rice poverty reduction demonstration village project piloted by the Chinese side in Burundi has helped all villagers in four villages lift themselves out of poverty. Since then, the model has been continuously promoted, leading to the establishment of 22 demonstration villages of the same type throughout Burundi, benefiting 2800 households and 22500 people, with an average annual income increase of $1340 per household. President ndayismiye of Burundi visited China's agricultural aid projects in Burundi three times and expressed gratitude to the Chinese government many times. Talents are the key to the development of agriculture. In the process of agricultural cooperation with Africa, China has unreservedly shared its experience and wisdom from China's agricultural development and poverty alleviation to African friends. Since 2012, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has held more than 400 agricultural training courses for 52 African countries, with a total of nearly 10000 trainees. Lucy Mimano from Kenya went to China twice to learn banana tissue culture technology. After returning home, she established her own banana tissue culture factory and won the African Business Competition Award. Enda Ikki of Burundi learned rice planting technology from Chinese agricultural experts and led the villagers to increase income and become rich. Now, he has become Burundi
