Perspective of the first offshore launch of Long March 11 carrier rocket

2022-10-08

On the evening of October 7, the Long March 11 carrier rocket, which was developed by the First Institute of China Aerospace Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd. under the leadership of the General Manager, launched the micro centimeter Beidou LEO navigation enhancement system S5/S6 test satellite in the coastal waters around Haiyang Port, Shandong, in the form of "one arrow and two stars". The satellite was successfully put into the scheduled orbit and the launch was a complete success. This launch is the first offshore launch of Long March 11 carrier rocket. Why did you choose offshore launch? What are the new highlights of this launch that refreshes the launch preparation speed? The preparation for the first offshore launch is faster. According to the satellite orbit requirements of this mission, the Long March 11 carrier rocket is launched offshore for the first time. Zhang Ming, deputy chief designer of the Long March 11 carrier rocket of the First Academy of Aerospace Science and Technology Group, said that the nearshore launch shortened the launch preparation time, while taking advantage of the better sea conditions at the nearshore launch site, to ensure the success of the launch mission. It is worth noting that, compared with previous sea launch missions, this mission is the first time to arrange the back-end test and launch equipment on the shore, and the launch point is located at the sea 3 kilometers away. The launch process not only reduces the sea voyage time, but also combines and optimizes the test process to further shorten the time required for task execution. Long March 11 carrier rocket, as a solid carrier rocket, has the advantage of "fast" first by eliminating the fuel filling and other preparatory steps before the launch of liquid rocket. In June 2019, the Long March 11 carrier rocket model team overcame a series of key technologies and completed the first sea launch technology test with "one arrow and seven stars". Since then, the model team has continuously optimized the technical process of offshore launch, and perfected and solidified it to form a standard launch process, making the launch operation more simple and more adaptable to the task. In addition to faster launch preparation, faster satellite rocket matching is also one of the highlights of this launch mission. In the field of commercial aerospace, many small satellites need to be carried and launched. However, it is difficult to unify the optimal working orbits of multiple launch satellites, and the structural coordination and electromagnetic compatibility between satellites also need to be solved. To this end, the Long March 11 carrier rocket has formed a series of satellite adapter product library. Previously, when a new launch mission was coming, it generally took half a year to develop the adapter after the user raised the demand. With the adapter product library, after receiving the launch mission, the Long March 11 carrier rocket model team can quickly match the most appropriate adapter according to the personalized needs, reducing the time consumption by half compared with the previous one. "We have constantly summarized practical experience, accumulated a large number of successful cases of joint optimization design of satellite and arrow interfaces, and improved service efficiency." Zhang Ming said that the Long March 11 carrier rocket model team was specially equipped with a star and arrow coordinator for each mission, giving full play to the advantages of multi professional technical support, and ensuring that all interfaces and technical indicators were determined through efficient consultation. The Long March 11 carrier rocket has been equipped with the normal sea launch capability and will be faster in the future. Since its first flight in 2015, it has achieved 10 successful land launches and 4 successful sea launches, reaching 14 consecutive victories. "Long March 11 carrier rocket has been completed
