Zhang Ji's "Night Mooring on the maple bridge": when does the moon fall and the crow crows?

Zhang Ji's "Night Mooring on the maple bridge" is a well-known work. Today's popular works are: "the moon is falling, the crow crows, the frost is all over the sky, and the fishing fire of Jiangfeng is worrying me. In Hanshan Temple outside Suzhou City, the bell strikes the passenger ship at midnight." The same is true of the current Chinese textbooks and popular reading materials for primary schools. Although readers praise this poem, few people think deeply about its problems. For example: first, "the moon sets" without timing, how to use the surrounding search to give it an accurate time positioning? 2、 There are no maple trees along the Suzhou River, so why did the poet chant "Jiangfeng"? 3、 Since it is the night of "moon setting", how can you identify the tree species on the riverside? 4、 Where is "sorrow"? How can a poet sleep with sorrow? These problems directly affect the correct understanding of poetry. In particular, "the moon is falling and the crow is crying", if it can not be accurately positioned, it will lead to confusion in the narrative logic of the whole poem and contradictions between things. There are two main opinions about the time of "the crow crows when the moon sets." one is that it is in the middle of the night, echoing the last sentence of "the bell rings in the middle of the night". For example, Shi Zhe cunyun said: "because of the cold, the crows can't sleep, so they are still crowing. The moon has set in the middle of the night, and it must always be in late autumn or early winter." (a hundred words of Tang Poetry) Liu Xuekai Yun said: "the title is' moor at night ', in fact, it only describes the scenery and feelings in the middle of the night. The first sentence of the poem describes three closely related scenes in the middle of the night: the moon setting, the crowing of crows, and the frost all over the sky." (comments on selected notes of Tang Poetry) another view is that it should refer to the time when the sky is about to dawn. For example, in Volume 14 of Tang Yin by Yang Shihong of the Yuan Dynasty, "the speaker does not understand the poet's living words, but thinks that it is really midnight, so he speaks many songs. But he does not know that the first sentence 'the moon is falling, the crows are crowing, and the frost is all over the sky' is just after dawn. Is it really midnight?" Huang Sheng of the Qing Dynasty also said, "from midnight without sleep to dawn, it is said that the bell sounds too early and stirs people's soul and dreams." However, it is a very reasonable narrative that the poem begins at dawn and ends at midnight. Therefore, Huang Sheng believes that this is a "flashback of the rules" and "this is already the dawn, and it is also the case that I wrote last night" ("three kinds of Tang poetry reviews"). In fact, both views are inappropriate. If it is midnight, the second sentence mentions "Jiangfeng", how can you identify the tree species along the river in the dark of night? Moreover, the "crow" mostly occurs at dusk when they return to their nests or at dawn when they are looking for food. For example, in the poem of Ming beiqiong, "the wind forest is noisy at sunset" (a quatrain in the south of the city), and in the poem of song song Xiang, "the crow at the dawn of the city tower" (sending the quiet sea to the high and thin). Although the ancient Yuefu had the song "crowing at night", it was an abnormal state after all, and "Midnight" was not the time of "crowing". The old book of the Tang Dynasty music chronicle says: "Wu Yeti was composed by Wang Yiqing of Linchuan in the Song Dynasty. In the 17th year of Yuanjia, Wang Yikang moved to Pengcheng to Yuzhang. During the Yiqing period, he went to Jiangzhou and town, and wept when he met him. He was surprised by the emperor, and he was afraid of returning the house. The concubine heard the sound of Wu Yeti at night, and said," tomorrow should be forgiven. "In the same year, he wrote this song for the governor of Southern Yanzhou." It is precisely because Wu does not cry at night at ordinary times that night crying is regarded as an omen. However, if "the moon falls and the crow crows" is positioned at the dawn of the day, it is OK from the common sense, but when the poem is considered as a whole, there are contradictions in the narrative: the first sentence is dawn, the second sentence goes to bed, and the third or fourth sentence is midnight. This chaotic narrative state is unreasonable anyway. Although Huang Sheng believes that this is a flashback, it really does not conform to the hurry of people who leave early at dawn
