(photo: more than 100 rescue workers have been fighting for 7 hours.) Yesterday, a rare industrial accident occurred at a construction site on Anderson Road, Sau Mau Ping. A 10 meter high weighbridge suddenly collapsed, hitting several container offices in the construction site, resulting in three deaths and six injuries. When the authorities received the report and learned that someone was trapped, they quickly dispatched 110 people to participate in the rescue, and dispatched drones and search and rescue dogs to assist in the search and emergency rescue. They fought for seven hours in a row. The chief executive, Mr Li Jiachao, is highly concerned about the accident and extends his condolences to the families of the deceased. He hopes that the injured will recover as soon as possible. He has instructed the social welfare department to provide appropriate assistance. The Secretary for labour and welfare, sun Yuhan, visited the site. He promised that he would conduct a thorough investigation and pointed out that it was initially suspected that there was a problem with the scale base. He had ordered the construction sites involved to stop work. He would also conduct a major industrial safety screening at all construction sites in Hong Kong to find out hidden dangers, strictly enforce the law, and prevent similar accidents from happening again. The scene was a construction site on Anderson Road near Antai estate in Sau Mau Ping, where housing society subsidized flats were being built for sale. There were three weighbridges on the site. The weighbridge involved was about 10 meters high, 30 meters long and weighed 65 tons. At 10:49 a.m. yesterday, a weighbridge collapsed during operation, hitting several offices composed of containers, and some containers fell down again and pressed the workers. Afterwards, the support of the weighbridge was seriously damaged and some containers were flattened. As many people were trapped, a large number of firefighters and first-aid workers rushed to the scene immediately to rescue eight people. One of them died on the spot when he was found. Seven people were rushed to the hospital by ambulance in batches. One injured person arrived at the United Christian Hospital and was certified dead after rescue. The other six injured persons were also taken to hospital in batches by ambulances. One of them was unconscious. After the accident, the workers in the construction site gathered nearby to report. They found a colleague (Engineer Xu xuepei) missing and believed to be trapped. The Fire Services Department then dispatched a collapse search and rescue team and a high-altitude rescue team to cooperate with the aerial camera to search the scene. Later, it was found that Xu was buried under the weighbridge. Because he was trapped by rubble, the rescue personnel could only see his lower body. They tried to communicate with him but failed to respond, so they tried to rescue him. A large crane of about 650 tons was called to the scene. After careful risk assessment, he lifted the scale and rescued him at about 6 p.m. unfortunately, he was confirmed dead on the spot. Yesterday afternoon, acting assistant fire superintendent of the Fire Services Department, Mr Yan Yingjie, and senior ambulance officer of the Fire Services Department, Mr Yuan Zhonghao, briefed the scene on the progress of the rescue, pointing out that a total of 17 fire engines and 14 ambulances were dispatched, 110 firefighters and ambulancemen were dispatched to participate in the rescue, and drones and search dogs were dispatched to assist in the search. It is understood that someone operated the scale at the time of the accident, but it was not a load-bearing work. After the accident, six 6-meter-long containers were crushed. It took rescuers 34 minutes to rescue six injured people from the containers at the scene, including the comatose driver named Xu Tianqian (62 years old). About 200 people were evacuated in the incident. The three deceased included Xu Wenming, an electrician (41 years old), pan Haoyu, an assistant engineer (22 years old), and Xu xuepei, an engineer rescued at last (25 years old). Xu suffered from skull fracture and massive hemorrhage, and was certified dead on the spot; Pan suffered multiple fractures in his body. When he was rescued, he had no breathing and pulse. He died after being sent to the hospital. As for the driver surnamed Xu Tianqian and another worker surnamed Chen
