The museum's ten years: so deep and so young

2022-08-24

Who is the most senior "cyber celebrity" in China? In this list, the 602 year old palace museum must have a place. Although the high temperature mode has been started in summer, the enthusiasm of the audience in the Palace Museum seems to be even higher. There are many ways to visit the Palace Museum. Some people queue up to see the exhibition, some people take photos in traditional clothes, some people linger in cultural and creative shops, and some people buy new year cards, making "entering the palace" a daily activity. In the seven years from 2012 to 2019, the National Palace Museum has been constantly breaking its visiting records. In 2019, the Palace Museum received more than 19.33 million visitors, making it the largest museum in the world. Among them, young people under the age of 40 accounted for 56%, and the post-80s, post-90s and post-00s became the majority of visitors to the Palace Museum. The story of the National Palace Museum is only a microcosm of the development of Chinese museums in the past decade. From the world of the museum to the world, the museum with the great Chinese civilization is so deep and young. Give the magnificent Forbidden City to the next 600 years. In the visiting experience of the previous generation of visitors, they usually enter the Forbidden City from the Meridian Gate, go all the way north along the central axis, and go out of the Shenwu gate. Besides the three main halls and the imperial garden, there are not many memory points. In 2012, the opening area of the Forbidden City was only 30%, but today, this number exceeds 80%. The audience can not only visit the "Hall", but also climb the "wall" - the opening of the Forbidden City wall gives the audience a unique perspective. When Zheng Xinmiao was the director of the Palace Museum, he started the overhaul of the Palace Museum and the cleaning of cultural relics, and for the first time found out the "family background" of the Palace Museum - 1807558 pieces (sets). How to make the cultural relics collected in the Forbidden City, the heritages displayed on the vast land, and the characters written in ancient books live is what the National Palace Museum has been doing for ten years. Before the Palace Museum, no one expected that young people would be able to line up for several hours not only in the online restaurant, but also in the cultural relics exhibition. At the turn of summer and autumn in 2015, the special exhibition of "Shiqu Baoji" became popular. In order to see the true face of precious paintings and calligraphy such as the picture of the river during the Qingming Festival, many people put on running shoes. As soon as the Palace Museum opened in the early morning, they flew from the noon gate to the Wuying hall. There were many people waiting in line when the museum was closing. Shan Jixiang, then president of the National Palace Museum, promised the audience that "the museum will not be closed until the last person". "Hand over the magnificent Forbidden City to the next 600 years" is what Shan Jixiang said on many occasions when he was president of the Palace Museum. In 2020, the Forbidden City, completed in 1420, achieved this goal. "The Palace Museum has been around for nearly a hundred years, and the Forbidden City has been around for more than 600 years. However, in our 5000 year history of civilization, they are all very young and should show youthful vitality. We also hope that they will always be young." Shan Jixiang said. Cultural and creative products enable the audience to see, buy, take, use and learn. Less than one month from the Mid Autumn Festival, the National Museum of China recently launched a "moon rising from Dongshan" moon cake gift box, whose name comes from Su Shi's "Ode to red cliff". The outer packaging of the gift box is based on the prototype of the cultural relic "red wall round lacquer plate" in the National Museum of China
