Ma Yuting, researcher of Suzhou Institute of systematic medicine, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, "there is no dead end in scientific research"

In the laboratory of Suzhou Institute of systematic medicine, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, by Dushu Lake in Suzhou in midsummer, researcher Ma Yuting is leading the team to advance the research work against time. In these two days, she caught up with important experimental nodes. She shuttled between the laboratory and the office across the corridor all day. Sometimes she looked attentive and sometimes she walked hurriedly. On the wall of the corridor, there is an introduction of Ma Yuting's research team. One of the words in the introduction is inspiring: "it is inevitable that the experiment will fail, but there is no dead end in scientific research. People who devote themselves to thinking will always welcome the bright future." Ma Yuting said that this is her work creed. Ma Yuting's affinity with scientific research began with her strong interest in biology in middle school. She was fascinated by the complex relationship between wonderful natural phenomena. On the occasion of the college entrance examination, my grandfather who suffered from cancer died after many rounds of painful chemotherapy. Ma Yuting, who felt the same way, secretly decided to do medical research in the future to find a way to treat tumors and reduce the pain of relatives. In 2005, Ma Yuting graduated from the school of life sciences of Huazhong University of science and technology, and applied for the master's degree in immunology of Tongji Medical College of the University, and was admitted with the first professional score. In 2008, she went to France to study for her doctorate in immunology, and chose the unpopular direction of tumor immunity at that time, opening a new exploration. In Paris, Ma Yuting worked more than 80 hours a week, desperately reading literature, intensively arranging experiments, and painstakingly thinking about breakthroughs. Finally, she found the key evidence of cell death regulating tumor immunity with solid data, published a series of high-level papers, applied for international patents, and obtained her doctorate in immunology in advance. In 2015, Ma Yuting declined an invitation to work abroad and returned to China to join the Suzhou Institute of systematic medicine of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. She said: "it is a matter of course that we should return to serve our motherland after learning our skills." Today, Ma Yuting not only serves as assistant to the director of the Institute and director of the immunization platform, but also as a doctoral supervisor. She also leads a young research team to continue to tackle key problems in the direction of tumor immunity. Colleagues and students said that Ma Yuting is full of energy and busy every day. She not only pays close attention to the cutting-edge progress in the field, but also puts forward new ideas in another way. She often rolls up her sleeves and works with everyone in key experimental links. Among the large amount of laboratory data, the data that can be used for the publication of the paper may be less than one tenth of the total experimental results. However, she insists on seeking truth from facts no matter what difficulties she encounters. After repeated experiments, Ma Yuting's team found the "accomplice" of stress stress inhibiting tumor treatment effect - glucocorticoids, and found biomarkers and potential treatment strategies that stress affects the prognosis of tumor patients, filling a cognitive gap in the world. Most of the existing tumor immune drugs and therapies are developed based on the targets discovered by foreign scientists. Ma Yuting hopes to lead the team to explore more original targets and then develop innovative drugs. She said that with the strong support of the state, Chinese scientists will certainly make more first-class achievements. The more we invest in our research, the more we achieve, the less the pain of cancer patients. At present, her team has published more than 50 papers in the field of tumor immunity in international high-level journals, and more than
