Tao Yong, chief ophthalmologist of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital -- there is light in his heart, which ignites hope for patients (the striver is young)

2022-07-28

Many years ago, a blind patient came to Tao Yong's consulting room and said, "although I can't see, I can hear the wind talking." "What do you hear the wind saying?" "Spring is coming." At that moment, Tao Yong's heart surged with a huge force, which made him love the ophthalmology industry even more. "I hold the light in my hand to illuminate everyone's face." Tao Yong wrote this sentence on his microblog. Tao Yong, chief ophthalmologist, doctoral supervisor and professor of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University. He used a knife to bring light to the low vision; He used a heart to ignite hope for the patient. After more than 10 years of medical practice, Tao Yong has performed more than 15000 operations, of which more than 2000 are free cataract surgery for poor patients. The intraocular fluid detection technology developed by Tao Yong's team has won 6 national invention patents. The technology has been applied in more than 600 hospitals nationwide, providing accurate diagnosis services for nearly 70000 patients with eye diseases. Tao Yong was born in Nancheng County, Jiangxi Province in 1980. Many local people have suffered from trachoma. At the age of 7, he accompanied his mother to Nanchang to see a doctor. The doctor took out more than 20 stones from his mother's eyelids. Since then, he has great admiration for ophthalmologists. In 1997, Tao Yong was admitted to Beijing Medical University. After graduation, he entered Peking University People's hospital to work in ophthalmology. At the age of 27, he received a doctor of medicine. He chose a popular research direction of Ophthalmology - the diagnosis and treatment of uveitis. "Uveitis is a complex blinding eye disease. Most patients belong to groups with low immunity and are often accompanied by serious complications. Therefore, whether it is medication or surgery, doctors need to have a broader vision, not just limited to ophthalmology." Tao Yong said. Tao Yong said, "the progress of medicine cannot be separated from the exploration of doctors. A good doctor cannot be satisfied with the status quo, but must constantly explore and innovate and do things that others have not done." In order to enable more patients to achieve accurate diagnosis and treatment, he concentrated on the study of intraocular fluid detection technology and made a major breakthrough. Tao Yong's team successfully developed intraocular fluid detection technology, that is, through pathogenic diagnosis technology, to help doctors quickly find the "culprit" of the disease. For example, in the past, the detection of uveitis was mainly based on blood detection. Now, by extracting about 0.1 ml of fluid from the eye for detection, the cause can be quickly identified, which is conducive to improving the overall diagnosis level of ophthalmologists. The intraocular fluid detection technology developed and promoted by Tao Yong's team is the first scientific and technological achievement transformation project of the scientific and technological innovation center of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital. Tao Yong's team has integrated the world's most advanced intraocular fluid detection technology, which can provide more than 600 intraocular fluid detection, filling the gap in China's systematic intraocular fluid detection scheme, and the overall technology is at the world's leading level. At present, the clinical application of intraocular fluid testing has been published, and the experts of intraocular fluid testing have reached a consensus, and the relevant content has been written into the textbook of Ophthalmology. Tao Yong's team is exploring the detection technology of ocular surface fluid. In the near future, patients can diagnose xerophthalmia, allergic conjunctivitis and other diseases through household kits with only one drop of eye surface fluid, which greatly saves medical resources. "Let the patient recover, this sense of value is more precious than any honor and money" "let the patient recover, this sense of value is more precious than any honor and money, this joy is unparalleled." Tao Yong said. In order to see one more patient during each visit, Tao Yong often neglects to eat and rest, and even doesn't have time to go to the toilet. When his assistants are off duty, he often still sees patients. "If the patient waits one more day, he may have to spend more money for meals and accommodation. I'd rather be a little tired myself." Tao Yong said. When a patient from Henan found Tao Yong, he couldn't even see his eye chart, but only vaguely saw the figure. Usually, his wife always accompanied him to the doctor, but once he came to the consulting room alone. It turned out that his wife was accidentally injured while working in a hotel. Due to family difficulties, he was close to being completely blind at that time and planned to give up treatment. Tao Yong not only gave him 1000 yuan, but also took the initiative to help him return the expert number. Later, the patient brought Tao Yong noodles rolled at home to express his gratitude. Tao Yong said, "a doctor should not only focus on technology, but also let patients see hope." "It is my wish and lifelong pursuit to cure patients as much as possible." Tao Yong is a confident, sunny and energetic doctor. He is enthusiastic about public welfare undertakings and unremittingly sows the seeds of love on earth. In November 2020, Tao Yong's team and the Beijing Red Cross Foundation jointly initiated the establishment of the "Rainbow volunteer service team bright angel team". More than 40 volunteers from all walks of life became medical social workers to provide patients with services such as medical guidance, registration, registration, examination, science popularization, etc. After the public welfare project was launched, the father of a child immediately signed up. In those days, due to economic reasons, the father and son could only sleep in the railway station. After knowing the situation, Tao Yong helped them solve their difficulties many times. Tao Yong's team also cooperated with charitable organizations to carry out free artificial intelligence early screening of cytomegalovirus retinitis and provide self-help fundus photography services for patients. At present, the project has been implemented in three hospitals. Cytomegalovirus retinitis often occurs in people with low immunity, especially in patients with leukemia after bone marrow transplantation. By promoting this public welfare project, it is expected to reduce about 4000 new blind people every year. There are more than 17 million people with low vision and more than 100000 blind children in China. Tao Yong found that many blind children are full of dreams for the future and hope to communicate with the world with their voices. To this end, he launched the public welfare project of "light blindness plan". This year's "National Eye Care Day", he invited caring people to help blind children who have talent for sound performance, and recorded an audio album of "listening to the sound of light" for blind children. At present, the first pilot project of "recording studio for blind schools" has been implemented in Beijing school for the blind. Tao Yong hopes to integrate more social forces and use technology and love to convey light and hope to low vision people. He said, "it is my wish and lifelong pursuit to cure as many patients as possible." (outlook new era)
