5.5G, to "build bridges and pave roads" for the development of digital economy

2022-07-25

From the history of mobile communication technology development, it is updated every 10 years. Every generation of mobile communication technology has experienced continuous evolution and enhancement. For example, there is 2.5G between 2G and 3G, which makes a qualitative breakthrough in data transmission rate; There are 3.5G from 3G to 4G, which promotes the emergence of smart phones; There are also 4.5g between 4G and 5g, promoting the high-definition of mobile video. In every major technological generation, technology is still upgrading and progressing. 5.5G is a communication technology planned from 2025 to 2030 under the trend of the continuous growth of 5g business scale and the continuous acceleration of digitalization and intellectualization. It is an enhancement and expansion of 5g application scenarios. Specifically, the downlink and uplink transmission rates of 5.5G are expected to increase by 10 times compared with 5g, and the network access rate will reach 10Gbps (10g bits per second, converted into a download rate of 1.25g per second), while ensuring millisecond delay. Gan bin, vice president of Huawei wireless network product line, introduced: "5.5G network provides a higher speed network experience, which can meet new applications such as two-way holographic communication, virtual reality interaction, 3D machine vision, tactile Internet, and build a new bridge between virtual and reality; on the other hand, 5.5G can 'connect and perceive' more objects, reflect the physical world units into the digital world, build an application scenario of interconnection of everything, and drive the digital upgrading of the real economy." For example, the 5.5G millisecond delay can support real-time interaction and create an immersive experience of "immersive". Cloud VR (virtual reality) live broadcast, VR double 8K Ultra HD live broadcast, digital intelligence sports, etc. are expected to come into reality, and spectators can be in "parallel live" to watch the event; At the same time, with a faster uplink transmission rate, 5.5G supports more comprehensive Internet of things capabilities to meet the upload needs of machine vision, massive broadband IOT and other scenarios such as enterprise production and manufacturing. In addition, the positioning capability of 5.5G will be upgraded from the "meter level" in the 5g era to the "centimeter level"; 5.5G can also provide sensing capability on the base station to realize multi-purpose of one network, which supports both communication and sensing. It is expected to be applied in many application scenarios such as intelligent transportation and vehicle road coordination. The construction of information infrastructure has laid a solid foundation for the development of digital economy. Data show that China has built and opened a total of 1.854 million 5g base stations, including nearly 300000 new base stations in the second quarter of this year. At the same time, China has also made new progress in 5g key technologies, and the number of 5g standard necessary patents declared by Chinese enterprises has remained the world leader. In April 2021, 5g international standard setting organization 3GPP officially defined the R18 protocol version as 5.5G, marking that the demand for 5g evolution has become the consensus of the industry. In China, China's imt-2020 (5g) promotion group and operators have actively invested in 5.5G innovation research and testing verification. At present, it has gradually moved from key technology innovation to cross industry cooperation innovation oriented to application scenarios. In May this year, domestic operators released relevant industrial innovation results. Wen Ku, vice president and Secretary General of China Communications Standardization Association, believes that as an upgraded version of 5g, 5.5G will become an important force supporting the development of digital economy. The industrial chain should work together to speed up the development of technical standards, promote the maturity of related products and industries, provide policy support for the planning of ultra wideband spectrum, and "build bridges and pave roads" for the development of digital economy. Wang Tao, executive director of Huawei and director of ICT infrastructure business management committee, said that we should inherit the successful experience of 5g development in China and take the initiative to layout the 5.5G industry. "The first is to jointly define the vision and evolution direction of the 5.5G industry, the second is to clarify the technological development route within the standard framework, and the third is to work together to prosper the industrial ecosystem, incubate more application scenarios, and support the sustained and high-quality development of the digital economy."
