Iranian Foreign Minister: Iran did not put forward "excessive requirements" in the negotiations

2022-07-07

Iran's Foreign Minister Abdullah Hyan said on the 6th that in the resumption of negotiations to implement the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, Iran did not put forward "excessive requirements" beyond the scope of the Iran nuclear agreement. Abdullah Hyan made the above statement at a joint press conference with visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed of Qatar. Abdullahiyan said that in the indirect negotiations held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, Iran asked the United States to provide "effective assurance" that Iran can enjoy all the economic benefits of the Iran nuclear agreement. This requirement is "not excessive", but the United States has been unable to assure Iran that this requirement can be achieved. U.S. State Department spokesman price said on the 5th that Iran has recently repeatedly put forward "additional requirements" beyond the scope of the Iran nuclear agreement. "Unfortunately, we have seen this situation again in Doha.". In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany. According to the agreement, Iran promised to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions against Iran. In May, 2018, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the agreement, and then restarted and added a series of sanctions against Iraq. Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of some provisions of the agreement, but promised to take measures "reversible". The relevant parties to the Iran nuclear agreement began to hold negotiations in Vienna, the capital of Austria, in April 2021 to discuss the resumption of compliance between the United States and Iran, and the United States indirectly participated in the negotiations. The eighth round of negotiations was launched in Vienna on December 27, 2021. On March 11 this year, the EU high representative for foreign and security policy Borrelli announced that the negotiations were suspended due to "external factors". From June 28 to 29 this year, Iran and the United States held a two-day indirect negotiation in Doha under the coordination of the European Union, and no significant progress was made.
