New technology brings sulfide solid-state lithium-ion batteries closer to industrialization

The reporter learned from Qingdao Institute of bioenergy and process, Chinese Academy of Sciences on the 5th that the research group of advanced energy storage materials and technologies led by researcher Wu Jianfei of the Institute has made a series of breakthroughs in basic scientific issues and large-scale battery preparation technology in the field of sulfide all solid-state lithium-ion batteries. Relevant achievements were published in the international journal chemical electrochemistry. With the advantages of high energy, fast charge and discharge, good low-temperature performance, high safety and long life, sulfide all solid-state lithium-ion batteries have creatively solved a series of problems existing in liquid lithium batteries, such as low energy density, flammability and explosion, and become a disruptive frontier science and technology. Sulfide solid electrolyte has many advantages, which makes sulfide all solid state lithium battery have both high energy density and high rate performance. Many car companies around the world have invested in the research and development of sulfide solid-state lithium batteries and released mass production plans. The key core material of sulfide all solid-state lithium-ion batteries is sulfide electrolyte. At present, the reported room temperature ionic conductivity of sulfide electrolyte is getting higher and higher, which is comparable to that of organic electrolyte used in commercial lithium-ion batteries. Over the years, the scientific research team has been committed to developing high-performance sulfide solid electrolytes, using high-throughput calculation methods to develop sulfide solid electrolytes with high conductivity, whose room temperature ionic conductivity has reached the international level, and has established a pilot production line of sulfide solid electrolytes, which has the capacity of kilogram batch preparation. On this basis, for the research on the air stability of sulfide electrolyte, the scientific research team has made key progress recently. By double doping soft acid and hard alkali into the electrolyte, sulfide electrolyte materials with high ionic conductivity, excellent electrochemical stability and air stability have been obtained. According to reports, in order to break through the technical bottleneck of the industrialized preparation of sulfide all solid state soft packed lithium batteries, the scientific research team has independently innovated a number of key technologies, such as the preparation of ultra-thin electrolyte membrane with a thickness of less than 20 microns, the development of high stability electrode coating technology, the construction of a stable electrode / electrolyte interface technology, as well as homogenization, coating, electrode molding and other technologies, We have also successfully developed soft packed batteries with excellent magnification and low-temperature performance, took the lead in breaking through the technical difficulties of poor cycle life of all solid-state soft packed lithium batteries, and successfully developed all solid-state soft packed lithium batteries with long cycle life, with 850 cycles and a capacity retention rate of 94%. At present, the scientific research team has completed the laboratory technology manufacturing, has established a laboratory production line of all solid-state soft packed batteries, and has explored the production mode of sulfide all solid-state lithium-ion batteries, which has laid a foundation for promoting the industrial production of sulfide all solid-state soft packed batteries with high performance, low cost, large capacity and high safety.
