National Health Commission: the annual average rate of premature mortality of major chronic diseases among Chinese residents is nearly three times that of the world

2022-06-21

The National Health Commission held a press conference today to introduce the progress and results of major disease prevention and control since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Chronic disease is a common disease, and it is the main disease that affects the health of our people. Wu Liangyou, deputy director of the Bureau of disease control and prevention of the National Health Commission, introduced at the meeting that in 2021, the premature mortality rate of Chinese residents due to four major chronic diseases, namely, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes, was 15.3%, which means that every person between the ages of 30 and 70 is 15.3% likely to die of four major chronic diseases. Compared with 18.5% in 2015, it has decreased by more than 3 percentage points, with a decrease of 17.3%, and the average annual decline is close to three times of the global average decline. Reducing premature mortality of major chronic diseases becomes an important development indicator The World Health Organization defines death occurring between the ages of 30 and 70 as "premature death". Premature mortality refers to the probability that each person will die between the ages of 30 and 70. Since the promulgation and implementation of the outline of the "healthy China 2030" plan in 2016, "reducing premature mortality of major chronic diseases" has become an important development indicator for the prevention and control of chronic diseases in China. Wu Liangyou said that the reason why we should pay attention to premature death is that people aged 30 to 70 are important labor force in society. The premature death of the labor force will greatly affect the level of social productivity and hinder the sustainable development of the national economy and society. Chronic diseases are an important cause of premature death. The level of premature mortality caused by chronic diseases is an important indicator to evaluate the level of prevention and control of chronic diseases in a country and region, and also a comprehensive indicator to reflect the effectiveness of prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, management and other aspects of chronic diseases. "The premature mortality rate of major chronic diseases in China is lower than that in India, Russia and other BRICs countries, but still higher than that in the United States, Japan and South Korea and other developed countries. We will continue to take reducing the premature mortality rate of major chronic diseases as the core indicator, actively promote the integrated development of prevention, treatment, health and management of chronic diseases, and continuously reduce the labor loss caused by chronic diseases." Wuliangyou said. Exploring the prevention and control mode of chronic diseases with Chinese characteristics Over the past decade, China has continuously explored the chronic disease prevention and control mode with Chinese characteristics, and the chronic disease prevention and control work has experienced a development process from point breakthrough to system improvement. Wuliangyou introduced that in the past decade, in promoting the comprehensive prevention and control of chronic diseases, China has built a total of 488 national comprehensive prevention and control demonstration areas of chronic diseases and more than 1000 provincial demonstration areas. Regional governments at all levels have continuously increased their attention to the prevention and control of chronic diseases. Multi departments have taken joint actions in environmental improvement, tobacco control, physical activity promotion, medical security assistance and other aspects to integrate the prevention and control of chronic diseases with the local society Combine cultural construction, build an all-round supporting environment, and lead the innovation and development of local work. In terms of risk factor control, we have further promoted the nationwide healthy lifestyle action. 97% of the counties and districts in China have actively participated in this action, building 87000 healthy communities, health trails, health parks, etc., widely advocating health concepts such as "health one, two, one" and "three reductions and three health", and health slogans such as "walking ten thousand steps a day, eating and moving in balance" and "keep your mouth and legs open" have been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, The masses' awareness and ability to consciously practice a healthy lifestyle have been significantly improved. In terms of early prevention, early screening, early diagnosis and early treatment of chronic diseases, relying on national major public health projects, at present, more than 4 million residents in high-risk areas are provided with early screening and intervention services for the benefit of the people every year, so as to promote the early detection and early intervention of chronic diseases and improve the level of recovery and survival treatment. Every year, more than 16 million school-age children are provided with free oral examination, pit and fissure sealing and local fluoride use to protect their oral health. We will strengthen standardized health management services for hypertension and diabetes, and effectively prevent the occurrence and development of major chronic diseases such as myocardial infarction and stroke. In terms of disease monitoring and data support, the monitoring system of chronic diseases and risk factors among Chinese residents has been continuously improved to realize the dynamic monitoring of the incidence, illness, death of chronic diseases and the prevalence and change trend of risk factors. The nutrition and chronic disease status reports of the national residents are released to the whole society every five years to provide evidence-based support for the timely adjustment and improvement of prevention and control strategies.
