We will continue to do a good job in coordinating and promoting epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development

2022-05-19

Recently, the National Bureau of statistics released relevant data on economic operation in April. On the whole, the epidemic in April had a great impact on the economic operation, but this impact is short-term and external. The fundamentals of China's stable and long-term economic growth have not changed. Affected by the epidemic, the current demand side and supply side have been greatly affected. From January to April, the added value of industries above designated size increased by 4.0% year-on-year, and the total retail sales of social consumer goods decreased by 0.2% year-on-year. In April alone, the added value of industries above designated size decreased by 2.9% year-on-year, 7.08% month on month, and the total retail sales of social consumer goods decreased by 11.1% year-on-year. It can be seen from the data that both the industrial added value of output and the total retail sales of social consumer goods show an obvious downward trend in 2022. From the demand side, the epidemic prevention and control has slowed down the flow of goods and personnel, and residents pay more attention to spending more money on necessities. The consumption of durable goods such as automobiles and household appliances decreased significantly, especially automobile consumption. In April, the total retail sales decreased by 31.6% year-on-year. Sales of grain, oil, food, beverages, medicines and other necessities increased. From the supply side, a series of arrangements have been made at the policy level to ensure supply and production of key livelihood enterprises, and the supply chain is still affected to a certain extent. The most typical one is still the automobile manufacturing industry. In April, the added value of the automobile manufacturing industry decreased by 31.8%, and the automobile manufacturing capacity decreased significantly. Consumer electronics manufacturing and automobile manufacturing are the economic pillars of China's manufacturing industry. The sluggish demand of the two pillars has a great negative impact on the manufacturing industry as a whole. How to improve production capacity and boost domestic demand in the future? The experience of the past three years tells us that we should promote economic development on the basis of accurate epidemic prevention. At the beginning of 2020, COVID-19 broke out. China controlled the epidemic through scientific and accurate strict prevention and control strategies, leading other economies in the world to resume production and work. In 2021, thanks to the timely and effective prevention and control measures in China, China's domestic demand will be released, and there will be a blowout growth in consumer demand in many places; With the release of supply chain capacity, while other countries are still struggling with the epidemic, China's supply chain has got out of trouble. "Made in China" not only meets domestic demand, but also becomes an important guarantee for the operation of supply chains in other countries. A noteworthy phenomenon is that due to the excessive export demand, the shipping prices of China, the United States and central Europe soared in 2021, and China's manufacturing industry benefited from both domestic demand and export. In 2021, the added value of industries above designated size increased by 9.6% year-on-year, and the total retail sales of social consumer goods increased by 12.5% year-on-year, indicating that although residents' consumption potential and consumption have been reduced by the epidemic, their willingness is still strong. As long as we grasp the window period of epidemic mitigation, make good use of fiscal and monetary policies to stimulate the economy, stimulate domestic demand from all parties, and launch policies to accurately support relevant industries, we can quickly revitalize economic development. What is particularly exciting is that China's total exports increased by 21.2% year-on-year in 2021. China's industrial chains such as equipment manufacturing, electronic manufacturing, biological vaccine and automobile manufacturing have become an important supporting force of the global supply chain. These real data and examples show that at present, there are many favorable conditions for China to stabilize the macro-economic market and achieve the expected development goals. We should adhere to the overall promotion of epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development. The most reliable way for China to develop its economy is to adhere to the general policy of "dynamic clearing" and do a solid job in epidemic prevention and control in the shortest time and at the lowest cost. As the epidemic prevention and control has achieved phased results and the economic stabilization policies and measures continue to be effective, China's economic operation is bound to achieve rapid recovery.
