The Hong Kong SAR assets Review Commission ruled that the nomination of Li Jiachao, the candidate for the chief executive election, was valid

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) candidate qualification Committee announced in the Gazette on the 18th that it had completed the examination of Li Jiachao's qualifications as a candidate for the 2022 Chief Executive Election and ruled that his nomination was valid. In addition, the registration and Electoral Office of the SAR government also received seven ex officio member registrations of the election committee arising from specified job changes. After examination, the capital review committee ruled that the registration of these seven ex officio members was valid. According to Annex I of the basic law of Hong Kong, the qualification examination committee is responsible for examining and confirming the qualifications of candidates for the chief executive and election committee members. The qualification examination committee will make a decision on whether the person concerned meets the statutory requirements and conditions of upholding the basic law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the people's Republic of China and allegiance to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the people's Republic of China. The election of the sixth chief executive of the HKSAR will be held on May 8, 2022. The nomination period will begin on April 3 and end on April 16. During the nomination period, the returning officer received a nomination form. The candidate was Li Jiachao. The Gazette notice published on the same day showed that Li Jiachao received 786 valid nominations from the election committee. Annex I to the basic law of Hong Kong stipulates that the Chief Executive shall be elected in accordance with this law by an election committee with broad representation, in line with the actual situation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and reflecting the interests of the whole society, and shall be appointed by the Central People's government. Candidates for the chief executive must be nominated by not less than 188 members of the election committee and not less than 15 members from each of the five sectors. (Xinhua News Agency)
