Youth stories embedded in vinyl records

2022-03-02

As the carrier of music, black glue occupied almost the whole 20th century until the birth of Cd in 1984. After that, the vinyl production line was largely eliminated, and the vinyl record devalued seriously. Decades later, as a superposition of nostalgia and youth, the revival of vinyl records has become a global trend. Behind the resurgence of vinyl, the youth stories of hiding, listening to and making vinyl are also worth pondering. Stick: I admit I'm very picky about black glue Since childhood, the magic stick has been destined for black glue. "When I was born, I had a record player at home. My father saved it by himself in 1982. At that time, my father bought amplifiers, speakers and other parts by himself. He saved six or seven sets one after another, and one sold for 150 yuan." In the memory of the prodigy, under this huge machine, there are a pile of records all year round, most of which are cheap thin-film records, as well as several expensive bakelite records. The first record of the prodigy's own collection was "Xin" from a friend in Suzhou. The musician was Wang Lei, published in France. It was in 2010. He didn't even have a black glue machine. Six months later, seeing more and more vinyl records in his collection, he finally had his own record player and upgraded from vinyl "spectator" to "listener". The prodigy said that most of the "black glue youth" he knew, like him, had a record before a record player - today, when digital sound sources are readily available, he initially bought black glue not to listen to music, but because he looks good and likes it, wants to own it and show it, which is determined by the viewing and collection properties of black glue. According to the introduction of magic stick, there are two types of "black glue youth" keen to buy black glue in the current domestic environment. One kind of people like to buy re engraved vinyl. They re engrave some old classic albums from CDs into vinyl. This kind of people mainly collect records. The other kind mainly buys new albums and has greater listening functions. For example, musicians under the brand of Bingma company will release three media: CD, tape and black glue at the same time when releasing new albums. Some music fans will take all the orders, and the magic stick was once one of them. Today, there are more than 300 pieces of vinyl on the magic stick record shelf. He admitted that the quantity was small. In his early years, he bought more, but later he bought less and less. With the longer and longer years of listening to music, his choice of records became more and more tricky, "In the early days, the quality of some domestic black glue reproduction was not up to standard. The first was the sound problem. The producer did not make black glue master tape and directly pressed the CD files into black glue. The second was the cover problem. Many early CD albums could not find the original design documents of the cover. The producer scanned the CD cover and directly enlarged the size, which was very rough visually. The second was after using paper and making I don't pay attention to the details of the process. " In his opinion, with the increase of high demand music fans, the quality of black glue published in China has improved, but it may be a little worse than his requirements. At the same time, there are relatively few avant-garde music products he likes, which eventually led to his transformation from an ordinary music fan to a record planner. In 2019, the fly band will release the album "the fly 1" in 1997 for the first time. The magic club will participate in this project. Since then, he has successively planned black glue records such as "firewood, rice, oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar and sugar", Cao Cao's "empty plan city machine", ronez (Zhou PEI) "the joy of passers-by", and Zhang Qianqian's "live 1997". The reproduction of his ideal classic album into black glue must meet two requirements: first, the album cover must be good-looking enough. Second, the content has enough value and has a certain historical significance in the history of music. Therefore, he positioned the black glue he planned as "making a collection of records with high artistry", and tried his best to explore some recordings with historical value, while the album cover cooperated with contemporary artists. Maybe it's because of the art from primary school. In the eyes of God stick, the cover and design of black glue products are as important as the music content. In fact, in his opinion, the biggest difference between vinyl and CD except sound is the cover. The design of vinyl cover is more exquisite than CD. It's like watching a video. You can't see many details with your mobile phone. If you put it on the big screen, all the details are clear. This is one of the reasons why he tends to cooperate with artists. Firstly, artistic works ensure aesthetics and have enough visual impact on the record shelf; More importantly, he believes that the works of Chinese contemporary artists are the same as the inner temperament of avant-garde musicians he knows, and can be completely integrated into product design without a sense of separation. Record sales are also not the pursuit of the baton. In fact, avant-garde music has always been a very small art field in China. In order to ensure the collection value of records, the records planned by the divine stick are limited to release. Because of the outstanding quality and scarcity of records, he was not worried about sales, but also because of the small number of releases, there was no profit in the end. For a long time, the prodigy only takes record planning as a hobby. From Monday to Friday, he is still the office worker who takes a taxi to the company before the morning rush hour. Not long ago, my father came to Beijing from Shandong to visit the God stick. My father said that when I was young, I often rode my bike to buy records in other places, and went to Zhucheng, Gaomi and all kinds of Amoy. Although the journey of a few hours was quite hard, his happiest time was when a friend came home. He opened his own record player and said, "come on, buy a new record and listen to it." Suddenly, the memory of my father coincides with that of my father Wu Yiming: "black glue revival" is a misunderstanding Near the South Gate of Beijing 798 Art District, there is a large-scale record store - actually records. The owner Wu Yiming is a businessman and a veteran music fan. In 2014, he ran a small shop in 798, which was profitable but boring. Finally, he decided to turn his hobby into work. At first, this small record store with only one window only sold lip synching CDs. Unexpectedly, the business was good. Wu Yiming decided to expand the business scope and increase the category of vinyl records. Nowadays, in fact, the business area of records is quite large, and small live performances are often held in the store. In this wave of black glue resurgence, Wu Yiming belongs to a relatively early black glue collector. In 2007, he saw a second-hand black glue in Guangdong - Leonard Cohen's second record "songs from the room". As a fan of Cohen music, he has many Cohen CDs, but he bought it when he saw Cohen vinyl for the first time. This is the first vinyl record he collected in his life. Wu Yiming understood "collection" as a verb, not a noun. He enjoys music and the process of collecting records, but he doesn't agree with the idea of taking vinyl records as a collection. "In the market, sometimes I can see some people say how high the collection value of their vinyl records is. I think it's a misunderstanding." Wu Yiming said. "The greatest value of vinyl records is to let us listen to it and share it. If we buy it and don't listen, it's just hanging on the wall (showing off), it doesn't make any sense." Wu Yiming often says this to the guests in the store. This concept is gradually formed in the process of long-term contact with black glue. "Only when you know its structure and material can you know its real value." Wu Yiming also disagrees with the slogan of "black glue revival". Black glue is only one of many music media, and it is far from returning to the mainstream in terms of market share The so-called "black glue revival" is just that people are willing to listen to music in more diverse ways. "My biggest wish is to let more people listen to music, that's all." Wu Yiming said. Sun Yizhou: the adventure of black glue of generation Z Sun Yizhou, born in 2000, is a generation Z (referring to the new era) youth. The "black glue age" is only two years. As a new art institution teacher, his music sources are mainly online platforms, CDs and tapes. He doesn't have a vinyl record player yet. At present, he has only bought more than ten pieces of vinyl, mainly for collection, and occasionally bought them for his friends. "Generally, he only buys his favorite album, not the one he will regret." His first vinyl record was a 7-inch small vinyl record, Florida's "right hand, left hand", which was bought during a trip to Japan in mid July 2018. If you have any special experience with black glue, "Oh, by the way, my friend recommended a black glue record store in Shanghai (I won't disclose its name). The black glue there is not classified or expensive. It's a bit like scouring 'punch tape' in the 1990s. It's a new experience for me to scouring black glue with this mood." In the photos he sent, the vinyl record in his hand was called konata Kanata, which was made by Japanese group hontatedori. "I bought it in a small record store last year. It's a very sweet one."
