From March 1, the national standard "Hygienic requirements for myopia prevention and control of school supplies for children and adolescents" (Standard No.: gb40070-2021) approved and issued by the State Administration of market supervision (National Standardization Administration Committee) was officially implemented. According to this standard, the minimum words used in the text of primary and secondary school textbooks should not be less than small 4. The standard puts forward that the characters used in textbooks for grade one and grade two of primary school should not be less than No. 3, and the Chinese characters should be mainly in regular script; The characters used in the third and fourth grades of primary school should be no less than No. 4. The Chinese characters are mainly in regular script and song script, and gradually transition from regular script to song script; The characters used in grades 5 to 9 and senior high school should not be less than small 4 characters, and the Chinese characters are mainly in Song typeface; The font size of learning materials for preschool children shall not be less than 3, and the font shall be mainly in regular script. In addition, the contents, notes and other auxiliary words in textbooks can be appropriately reduced by referring to the text, but the minimum words used in primary school should not be less than No. 5. The minimum number of words used in junior middle school and senior high school shall not be less than small 5. The standard also stipulates the hygienic requirements and testing methods of school supplies for children and adolescents such as teaching aids, test papers, schoolbooks (exercise books), learning magazines, newspapers and other printed materials and publications related to myopia prevention and control. Previously, in August 2018, the Ministry of education, the National Health Commission, the State Administration of sports, the Ministry of finance, the Ministry of human resources and social security, the State Administration of market supervision, the State Press and publication administration, the State Administration of radio and television and other eight departments jointly issued the implementation plan for comprehensive prevention and control of myopia among children and adolescents. The implementation plan proposes that by 2023, we will strive to reduce the overall myopia rate of children and adolescents by more than 0.5 percentage points per year on the basis of 2018, and more than 1 percentage point per year in provinces with high myopia incidence. By 2030, the new-onset myopia rate of children and adolescents will be significantly reduced and the overall level of visual health will be significantly improved. The myopia rate of 6-year-old children will be controlled at about 3%, the myopia rate of primary school students will be reduced to less than 38%, the myopia rate of junior middle school students will be reduced to less than 60%, and the myopia rate of senior high school students will be reduced to less than 70%.
