2021-12-15

In response to the so-called "Hong Kong semi annual report" issued by Britain on the 14th, the Hong Kong SAR government said that many allegations in the report were untrue and the SAR government strongly opposed it. A spokesman for the SAR government said that it is timely and necessary to improve the electoral system of the HKSAR in order to ensure that the electoral system of the HKSAR conforms to the principle of "one country, two systems" and the actual situation of the HKSAR, so as to maintain Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability. The upcoming Legislative Council general election has four characteristics: broad representation, political inclusiveness, balanced participation and fair competition. The SAR government will strive to ensure that public elections are held on the principles of fairness, openness and honesty. With regard to the false accusations against the Hong Kong National Security Law in the report, a spokesman for the SAR government said that the Hong Kong national security law ensures that the Hong Kong SAR can unswervingly, comprehensively and accurately implement the principles of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy, and that citizens continue to enjoy the rights and freedoms under the Hong Kong Basic Law in accordance with the law. The law enforcement departments of the SAR government take law enforcement actions against the persons or units concerned on the basis of evidence, in strict accordance with the law and in accordance with their acts, which has nothing to do with their political position, background or occupation. The spokesman said that with regard to the prosecution and judicial independence of the HKSAR, the Hong Kong Basic Law stipulates that the prosecution work is in the charge of the Department of justice of the HKSAR without any interference, and its prosecution decision does not involve any political consideration. The HKSAR enjoys judicial power and the power of final adjudication. The courts conduct trials independently without any interference. The spokesman urged Britain to respect international law and the basic norms of international relations and stop interfering in China's internal affairs through Hong Kong affairs.
