Novel coronavirus pneumonia is a major news conference. The Ministry of Education held a press conference today. Wang Dengfeng, director of the national joint office for prevention and control of myopia and the director of the Department of sports health and arts education of the Ministry of education, revealed that the overall myopia rate of children and adolescents in 2019 was 50.2%, down 3.4 percentage points from 53.6% in 2018, and affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic. In 2020, the overall myopia rate of children and adolescents in China was 52.7%, an increase of 2.5 percentage points compared with 2019, but still decreased by 0.9 percentage points compared with 2018. Wang Dengfeng said that the prevention and control of myopia among children and adolescents should adhere to "one increase, one decrease and one guarantee", "one increase is to increase physical exercise," one decrease "is to reduce unnecessary schoolwork burden, and" one guarantee "is to strengthen policy guarantee". "Really reducing the heavy schoolwork burden is not only the basic problem of myopia prevention and control of children and adolescents, but also the most difficult problem." Wang Dengfeng said. Therefore, first of all, we should solve the problem of ideological understanding, reduce what should be reduced and increase what should be increased. We can really promote the healthy development of children and adolescents' eyesight through a two pronged approach. It is understood that in the next step, the Ministry of education will take targeted myopia prevention and control measures according to the actual situation of children and adolescents in different school stages, different types of schools and different regions; Scientifically and accurately guide all localities to play the leading role of the government and the main position of the school, and promote social participation; Scientifically and accurately guide all localities and schools to reduce students' academic burden, reduce the use of electronic products, reduce the rate of new myopia, slow down the progress of myopia and reduce the rate of high myopia; Strengthen students' outdoor activities and physical exercise, implement vision monitoring, and improve the visual health environment. In addition, the National Health Commission is cooperating with the Ministry of education and other departments to take a series of action measures, such as signing the letter of responsibility, establishing the evaluation and assessment system, comprehensively finding out the base of myopia rate, strengthening monitoring and evaluation, promoting appropriate technologies, and extensive social publicity and education, so as to jointly promote the prevention and control of myopia. The National Health Commission has carried out the pilot of appropriate technologies for the prevention and control of myopia among children and adolescents in 183 districts and counties across the country. In the next step, it will start the implementation of the second batch of pilot work. On the basis of realizing the full coverage of monitoring and evaluation at the Prefecture and municipal levels, it will strive to achieve the full coverage of county (District) monitoring within its jurisdiction in 2021.
