The Kunqu Opera "Lin Chong", starring young actors of the "Zhen" generation from Suzhou Kunju Theater in Jiangsu Province, was performed brilliantly at the Kunshan Cultural and Art Center Grand Theater on the evening of the 28th, marking the beginning of the 9th China Kunqu Opera Art Festival. This year's Kunqu Opera Art Festival is hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province. From April 28th to May 4th, 16 Kunqu opera dramas and excerpts selected from the eight major Kunqu opera troupes across the country will be staged alternately in Suzhou. At the same time, 17 Kunqu opera supporting activities will be launched in six categories, including the first Kunqu opera art appreciation in universities, gardens, and commercial complexes. The major plays include 8 excellent productions, including "National Style" by the Northern Kunqu Opera Theater, "Jade Hairpin" by the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe, "Poetry Banquet: Biography of Tang Talents" by the Jiangsu Provincial Performing Arts Group Kunqu Opera Troupe, "Lin Chong" by the Suzhou Kunqu Opera Troupe, "West Wing" by the Kunshan Contemporary Kunqu Opera Troupe, "Brave Youth" by the Zhejiang Jingkun Art Center, "Xu Dingchao, the Supervising Censor" by the Yongjia Kunqu Opera Troupe, and "Fisherman's Joy" by the Hunan Kunqu Opera Troupe. Zhezi Opera will be performed in various cultural spaces such as small theaters, universities, and opera museums. This year's Kunqu Opera Art Festival will hold a series of discussion and exchange activities. During the art festival, the 10th Kunqu Academic Symposium will be held, inviting experts and scholars to discuss issues such as the 20th anniversary of the premiere of the youth version of "Peony Pavilion" and Kunqu music creation, to explore the role positioning of contemporary youth groups in the inheritance and development of Kunqu opera, the rules of Kunqu music creation, and the path of industry talent cultivation; We will also hold a seminar on "one drama, one evaluation" and select some excellent Kunqu opera scripts from the previous "Liang Chenyu Cup" activities for promotion, providing a platform for communication and cooperation between script authors and Kunqu opera troupes.
